Al

Aldebaran (アルデバラン), commonly known as Al (アル), is a former member of the Priscilla Camp who played the role of Priscilla Barielle's knight. Though only having supporting roles in Arc 3 and Arc 5, he is a major character in Arc 7 and Arc 8, and the primary antagonist of Arc 9. He also played a major supporting role in The Tale of the Scarlet Princess.

Introduced as Priscilla's "knight", it is quickly revealed that there is more to him than at first glance, following the revelation that he was supposedly summoned to this world from Japan roughly 18 years prior to Subaru's own summoning. Throughout the series, he is gradually shown to have a level of precursory foreknowledge and familiarity with the Royal Selection participants, the Witch Cult, the Witches of Sin, and particularly Subaru himself.

Appearance

Al stands at 172 centimeters tall, making him the same height as Natsuki Subaru. When meeting Subaru for the first time, Al was estimated to be around forty years of age.[1] His frame is stocky, and his body is covered in thick bulging muscles that give him an imposing impression. After an unfortunate incident in the Vollachia Empire in the time following his apparent arrival, Al lost his left arm from his forearm down. Instead of resorting to a prosthetic limb, Al has the stub where his forearm used to be covered in bandages. There are various other scars scattered across his body, including a pair of claw-like marks on his right forearm and a vast assortment of scars on his face that left him disfigured.[2] His overall shabby look, including his clothes and unshaven legs, make him look like a bandit or some other kind of lowlife. It could be said that his appearance is the polar opposite of his mistress, Priscilla Barielle.

Every piece of clothing Al wears gives a slightly different impression. His ensemble consists of a pair of green split-toe sandals with yellow buckles, sand-colored linen trousers, a bandage around his right wrist that matched the one that goes around his missing limb, bandages of the same assortment that are wrapped around his feet like socks, an open green linen vest with yellow lining and a hem of white fur, and a shabby yellow mantle that reaches down to his hips. Additionally, he wears a brown belt with a golden buckle that has a collection of green pouches attached to it with his liuyedao usually sheathed nearby. His most defining physical quality is the jet-black helmet he uses to conceal his scarred face. The helmet in question, in contrast to the rest of his clothing, is very refined and features a plume of neat red hair as a crest. Contrary to how he seemingly presents himself, Subaru believes that the way Al chooses to dress serves as a means of "protection".[3]

Under his helmet, Al has long black hair wrapped in a ponytail, black eyes, and a stubble beard. He wears the same outfit as before even when regressed to his younger self during the events of Arc 7, but instead of his helmet, he uses torn-up wrappings to cover most of his face, similarly to how Vincent first appeared at the start of the arc. From the visible parts of his eyes, he appears to have sanpaku eyes, with small irises that make the whites of his eyes stand out. Additionally, he has long, black hair that appears to have purple strands and is tied up in a messy ponytail. Furthermore, at some point in time within the Castle of Dreams, Al was depicted from behind as having shorter hair reminiscent of Subaru's and wearing what appeared to be his jersey, though his front side, including his face and the front of his hair, remained out of sight.

Personality

Al has a frivolous and goofy personality, and, having spent more than eighteen years in a different world, he was easily able to get along with others. He also brags that the only way he can fight is by outwitting people and catching them by surprise. Because of his light-hearted tone and friendly disposition, Al is a man who is easy to get along with even when taking his eccentric behavior into consideration, though at times, he can appear aloof. Al also somewhat cares about his appearance and has mentioned being insecure about the scars that cover his face. At one point, he even panicked when his face was threatened to be exposed and rushed to wrap bandages around his face when his helmet could no longer fit. He likewise shows attachment to his helmet, and he feels that he wouldn't be able to have face-to-face conversations without it. Also, in spite of his vast combat experience, Al does not like to make enemies, as he considers that taking care of them when a problem occurs requires a lot of work.

Despite his easygoing attitude, Al has a dark air to him, as noted by Rem. Beneath his cheerful facade, he is shown to be someone who is full of fear, quick to anger, and is heavily reliant on his Authority, to the point that should he lose it, he will cower in fear, show no enthusiasm to be involved in the events around him, and will retreat into himself, hiding from danger. He is often secretive and has shown to be very suspicious, which had at one point even been pointed out to him by the Sin Archbishop of Lust.[4][5] At times, he has shown open hostility at different things, such as when he mistook Rem for Ram, and afterward, felt openly disgusted. Likewise, he seemed to loathe his own name, angrily replying to Priscilla at one point to not call him by it. He also has shown to bring death to the people who harm to the people he loves, and in combat, Al is excessively calculative and patient, at times showing excessive brutality towards his opponent, coming up with various plans, counting the number of times he gives his life, and at times, expressing frustration with his opponents. Despite all of this, Al does not want to see people die if he can help it, which Rom even noticed, only taking drastic actions either when he is forced to or when he knows that someone is nearby that can prevent the disaster he would bring.

Al has shown to have rather intense or surprising attitudes towards others that seem to be the crux of his actions and personality. He has complicated feelings for his teacher and the person who gave him his task, Echidna, harboring reservations about how incompatible they were with each other despite being unable to describe their relationship as one of like or dislike. In the case of Satella, he couldn't bring himself to land a hit against even her illusion, and upon releasing her upon the world in Arc 9, he seemed to be depressed as he claimed that she wouldn't even look at him. In the case of Rem, after having mixed her up with her sister, Al showed an incredible amount of hostility and disgust. In Emilia's case, she even seemed to pick up on a hint of loneliness coming from him. On the other hand, after becoming Priscilla's knight, despite feeling more like her caretaker, she was his primary pillar of support who he showed great love for. It was because of her that he believed that he could believe that he could abandon the task given to him by his teacher. Yet when he lost Priscilla at the end of the Great Disaster, he reverted back to how he was before he met her, and he began referring to himself as Aldebaran again.

Most strikingly, Al seems to bear a great hostility towards Subaru, despite sharing some habits with him, to the point that seeing his face and the faithful recreation of him and his Authority via Emilia's Ice Soldiers made him feel disgusted, and he showed extreme ease at crushing the clones of him, despite having cooperated with each other prior. Subaru also seems to be connected to both his task and his identity crisis. Because of this, he has claimed that by accomplishing his task, which involved sealing him away and removing him from the world, he can become himself, and in order to accomplish that, he was completely willing to disregard his friendships, wrap the Divine Dragon into his schemes, prompt a battle with Reinhard van Astrea, set a trap that could summon the Witch of Envy, take a Royal Selection candidate hostage, bust a Sin Archbishop out of prison to assist him, bring ruin upon the Kingdom's Royal Capital, and make himself an enemy of the world. Once he is done with his task, he intends to give up his life for good.

According to Echidna, Al has inherited the “systemized likeness” of an unspecified man whom he has similar reasoning to,[6] though it is unknown if his inheritance of the man's likeness also extends to his soul and could have changed his appearance due to the connection between soul and vessel. Incidentally, it has been said that Aldebaran knows Natsuki Subaru entirely,[7] and at some point while training under Echidna in the Castle of Dreams, Al took on a similar appearance to him. Al also believes that, since his “birth”, he has worn something akin to the mask of somebody else.[8]

History

At an unknown point in time, whether he had become his current self during his life or had been artificially made with it in mind, the man with the identity of "Aldebaran" was birthed. Like Subaru, Al claims to originate from Japan. He was taught how various kinds of knowledge, different types of magic, and forbidden arts, such as Ol Shamak, all by the Castle of Dreams Echidna, who he referred to as his teacher out of spite. Once before, he was tasked with a certain mission by her, and when he failed, she claimed he betrayed her expectations. He has since been given a task that seems to be connected to Natsuki Subaru.

Al is apparently acquainted with a holder of a Witch Factor other than Capella, as he told her that she was considerably different from the sins he knew.[9] He also is in some way acquainted with the Witch Cult and the Witches of Sin,[10] as he knew that Typhon died in Priestella, where her remains resided, and he also knew about the Authority of Gluttony's effects. It should also be mentioned that Al stated that silver hair brings him bad memories about how a "trash, stupid useless person he is" due to how he failed to be of any use and to protect the one he cherished the most.

The Tale of the Scarlet Princess

Approximately 18 years prior to Subaru's arrival, Al found himself in Vollachia. While there, he was trapped on the Gladiator Island Ginunhive as a gladiator and received a sword to battle as a gladiator with. However, while being trapped there, he lost his left arm in an unknown battle.[11] He spent at least a decade there as a gladiator fighting in the Colosseum. About six years into his time as a gladiator, he and a number of other gladiators faced a large witchbeast, with the only survivors being himself and Hornet, whose attention he would go on to catch. Four years later, Ubilk attempted to swindle Al to participate in a rebellion, which he denied. Soon afterwards, while a young Priscilla was visiting the island, a rebellion, ignited by Ubilk, had begun. This ultimately led to Al having to fight Hornet, who joined Ubilk's side in order to fight Al and go out with an honorable death. He managed to escape from her after experiencing a number of loops, drifting onto a small island off of the main island, only being saved from the verge of death by Arakiya. With her at his side, Al returned to the island and was finally able to get the upper hand on her. Arakiya burned the body of a shinobi who utilized the Poison Hand technique he had killed before, leading to Hornet's dishonorable death via poison. Eventually, the riot was quelled thanks to Priscilla's speech, and though Olbart Dunkelkenn, who had arrived in response to the riot alongside Arakiya, had offered to have him rewarded, Al refused. After this, Al stated how he changed Arakiya's fate by saving her and then reflected that the world may receive a big change if she were to get children in the future. As he thought this could be one of the marks he had left on the world, he then mentioned that he would get shouted at by his "teacher" if he were to say it out loud. In the end, he returned to being a gladiator, slaying Ghajit, a fellow survivor of the rebellion, in a deathmatch.

Despite this, however, one day, one of the gaolers let Al escape because they could see that his eyes were full of purpose, unlike the other gladiators.[12] To help him fund his journey out of Vollachia the gaoler gifted him his trademark black helmet which was made in the image of the helmet worn by one of the Colosseum's heroes.[13]

The Day I Gave Up on Being a Following Star

One day, Leip Barielle organized a tournament to decide who his wife Priscilla's knight would be. Among the contestants, Al was among them. When Priscilla asked Schult for his thoughts, decided to recommend Al, as he believed that the man showed care for Priscilla, unlike the other combatants. Priscilla thought Al was entertaining enough and that his fighting style was interesting, and though he did not win the tournament, she selected him as her “clown”. This infuriated Leip, as he had tried to fix the tournament so that a winner would be under his control. A few days later, Leip attempted to bring Al and Schult under his control, but he was refused when he revealed his intentions to make Priscilla into a puppet. Al clashed with Leip by using his Authority, which resulted in the baron being incapacitated. In due time, Leip passed away before the commencement of the Royal Selection, leading Priscilla to take over as the governing lord of the Barielle Barony. Under her rule, the land, which was previously ravaged by severe poverty due to Leip's tyranny, quickly got back on its feet, and its people started to live much happier and better lives all as a result of Priscilla's leadership of the territory.

Sunlight Illuminating the Water's Surface

One day, Priscilla wanted Al to entertain her, though this resulted in her flicking him into a fountain on the grounds. With Schult worried about him and mentioning his helmet, Al mentioned that it wouldn't be destroyed so easily, after which he revealed to Priscilla he had acquired his helmet from and lost his arm at Ginunhive. With Priscilla becoming bored of listening to him, Priscilla told Schult to entertain her, leading him to tell her of a rumor that heading toward the spring near the town of Ladrima would allow one to see the deceased. Her interest piqued, she took them and headed toward the forest near Ladrima. There, Al questioned whether she wanted to see someone who had died, whereas she questioned his being against seeing the dead due to not wanting to see someone. Shortly after, Al was separated from his companions and was forced to face illusion of Leip despite him being alive, gladiators and guards he knew from Ginunhive, including Ghajit and the guard who gave him his helmet, even though the former of whom was the only one he knew who had died, and even a shadowy figure who he could not bring himself to hurt, even 100 million tries. Soon after, however, Priscilla dispelled the illusion, and shortly after, the fog was lifted from the spring. This resulted in a short-lived fight with an evil spirit. Sometime later, when she was brought Kurenai flowers by a villager at her manor, Al realized that the actions Priscilla took were just so that she could see those flowers, and she ordered Al and Schult to decorate the manor.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

After the Royal Selection's commencement, a man named Array Denkuts came to the Barielle Manor in order to plead Priscilla to go to his home village, Coffleton, and eliminate the undead that had appeared there. Together with Al and Yae Tenzen, Priscilla went to Coffleton and discovered that the undead had some sort of parasite within them. The men of the town had all turned into undead who looked exactly as they did in life, while the women and children housed the parasites yet were still alive. Priscilla used the Yang Sword to remove the parasite from them, she gathered her private army, the Crimson Battlefront, to visit two other villages among the Tenrill River to eliminate any undead, and she brought Yae and Al with her to an unaffected village to investigate why there were no undead there. They visited a watermill and found that the manager there, Edda Rayfast, had become the leader of the undead, and she opened a trap door that led Al into a wastewater treatment plant.

On Priscilla's order, Yae retreated to search for Al. In the meantime, Priscilla conversed with Edda and discovered her plan to create a "paradise" for her "maker". When Yae found Al, he had cleared through waves of numerous undead and decided to save Priscilla from Edda. He went back to the watermill, successfully defeated Edda, and rescued Priscilla. With the undead leader defeated, they returned to the Barielle Manor. However, at midnight, Yae made an attempt to visit Priscilla's room, as she was an assassin who made an attempt to kill her supposed mistress, and Al stood in her way, leading to a fight between the two. That night, she disappeared, and Al claimed to Priscilla and Schult that she suddenly decided to “resign” due to “familial matters”.

Guardians of the Crimson Flame

Despite his claim to the contrary, in reality, Al used the Aggressor side of his Authority to instill “terror” into Yae, traumatizing her. As a result, she became his servant, and he ordered her to lay low elsewhere.

A short time later, a suicide squad comprised of ten shinobi was tasked by Chisha Gold to kill Priscilla, which Yae failed to accomplish. Discovering there were signs of people visiting the base she had previously used, she determined that they intended to assassinate Priscilla during the upcoming Masquerade Night she was going to hold. During the night of the event, Al and Yae worked together to kill the nine shinobi around the mansion who were to be used as sacrificial distractions. Meanwhile, Hamayal Wesmi, the shinobi entrusted with carrying out the assassination, was met by Al in one of the hidden passageways to the Barielle Manor that were constructed under Leip's supervision. Hamayal sent his Phantom Wolf on Al, expecting it would defeat him, but he was met with one of Yae's steel threads and realized she was alive, sending him into a fury. However, Yae told Hamayal that she had not betrayed the shinobi to save herself, but rather because she had submitted to “terror”, and that the harbinger of it was getting up. Before Hamayal's eyes, Al had risen and overcome his Phantom Wolf, forcing it to submit to him by using the Aggressor side to his Authority. Ordering his servant to stand back, he proceeded to to use it against the shinobi himself to break his mind in the same way Yae's was.

Following the incident, on Al's orders, Hamayal sent his Phantom Wolf through the letter that was to report how the mission had gone. The Phantom Wolf was set on Chisha as soon as he opened said letter, but Cecilus Segmunt, who was in the room with him, eradicated it in a flash, ending Hamayal's life. Recognizing that Priscilla's guardians had taken care of the incident, Chisha ceased attempting to assassinate her, having partially expected that it would be infeasible to begin with.

Lugunican Papers

In the year following the Subjugation of the White Whale, she was requested an interview by Shorty Megan and Lululala. Already having a meeting with Anastasia Hoshin, the interview was scheduled on the same day. There, they discussed their opinions on the Royal Selection and the other candidates. In particular, both Anastasia and Priscilla claimed that Emilia didn’t stand a chance, as public discrimination against her was heavy as she was a perfect resemblance and of the same race as the Witch of Envy. Even with the slaying of the White Whale and the Sin Archbishop of Sloth under her belt, they claimed that it was an achievement that reflected more on her knight than her, which even Anastasia’s knight Julius Juukulius agreed with, though Al argued that his achievements also reflect on her. Eventually, the interview came to a close.

Priscilla-sama's Cheers for Me!

A short time after the Battle for Priestella, the members of the Priscilla Camp returned to the Barielle Domain, where they were attacked by assassins. After dispatching them, Priscilla revealed that they had been sent from Vollachia, prompting her to decide to go there. However, Al was against the decision, and he told Priscilla as much. This led to a conflict between the two, and in his attempts to stop her, Al used his Authority against her, dying around 1000 times. In the end, however, he conceded, and he joined her, alongside the rest of the camp, in infiltrating Vollachia.

Abilities

Unknown Authority (権能 Ken'nō): Al has been shown to possess a yet unnamed Authority that is, in a way, in an unenumerated position,[14] similarly to how Clind described the sins of Vainglory and Melancholy. According to Al's own knowledge of his Authority, it can not only be described as unenumerated, but also supernumerary and appropriated, and is not the sin of Pride,[15] with the identity of the aforementioned sin's current user not known to him,[16] due to him mistaking Melancholy's user for Pride.

  • In order to activate his Authority, Al must meet unknown criteria. Once activated, whenever Al or the target dies within the created “range” around him while the Authority is active, time within the area will reset back to a point in the past. The Authority has the two “sides” of Victim and Aggressor to it, which had their names suggested to him by Echidna, The exact conditions that cause which side Al receives are vague, though it has been said it is a “bug” of his Authority and that it depends on the presence or absence of his resolve.[17] He also suggests that the area of a location is important in activating it, as he needs to “wrap” it within a certain area.[18] Al refers to what seems to be the range of his ability as a domain (領域, ryōiki), and to a “checkpoint” he can only progress forwards in time as a matrix (マトリクス, matorikusu). Similarly, when he activates his domain, he initiates a “thought experiment”. What this means, however, is unknown. Within his domain, Al can an experience a seemingly infinite number of loops, but if he was forced outside of it by any means and could not reestablish it in time, he would die permanently without the capacity to spare any second chances.[19] The frequency and scope of using his Authority can create a recoil in Al's mind,[20] causing him to experience immense mental exhaustion. By repeatedly killing himself to reexperience a fixed period of time, he can relieve his mental fatigue or take advantage of unlimited time to devise plans to use in battle for as long as he needs to.[21]
  • If Al lands on the “victim” (被害者, Higaisha) side,[22] he will remember previous loops in his domain while an opponent will not. This ability functions as something eerily similar to Return by Death, with the two notable differences being that he has the advantage of being able to choose a checkpoint and the disadvantage of it not being automatic. There is no limit to how many times he can die like this. Like with Subaru, the most dangerous part of this mode of his Authority is his ability to recall the futures from each time he dies. Each death allows him to prepare for every reset, and given enough tries, Al can usually come up with a way to defeat or at least incapacitate his foe. However, if he is not careful about when he resets his domain while his is the victim, it is possible for Al to be trapped in endless loops and unable to overcome it.
  • If Al lands on the “aggressor” (加害者, Kagaisha) side,[23] his opponent will remember the previous loops while he will not.[24] His opponent is then trapped in a never-ending loop of trying to kill Al, seemingly unable to escape until they lose their minds, as in the case of Leip Barielle, or become traumatized, as in the case of Yae Tenzen. The existence of the Aggressor of the Domain is a bug that did not occur in his Authority originally, and the origin of the bug is not understood by Al since he has been separated from someone who would be suited to analyze it.[25] A deficiency in Al's resolve, whether by the loss of his confidence or a lack of a sense of duty, seems to trigger this side of his Authority to activate.[17] This is how it was activated on Yae, who caused Al to feel overwhelmingly weak to the point his resolve weakened, causing her to be wrapped up and trapped in the Aggressor role for a time.[26]

Magic (魔法, Mahō): Al often puts earth magic and yin magic into practice, although he only possesses a natural talent with the latter.[27] He primarily wields applications of earth magic, employing the common spell Dona, or applying less conventional applications, such as using earth to create a temporary prosthetic arm from stone, creating a stone weapon that he can rupture on command, releasing sharp fragments of debris at a target, forging stone pillars to use as midair footholds, and closing his wounds with stone. He often uses pebbles as catalysts to reduce the amount of mana required when forming weapons, and similarly, he can even mold a Dragon’s scales into weapons with this magic. Despite only using earth magic and yin magic, Al also has the knowledge to put powerful spells of other affinities into practice but lacks the capabilities to do so. By acquiring another body with more talent in magic that shared the same magical signature as him, he gained the freedom to cast said spells through the second vessel. He also has a habit of utilizing magic while combining it with the science taught in his own world, allowing to come up with dangerous uses of magic, such as creating a steaming explosion using light, ice, and water vapor.

  • Dona (ドーナ): Al can summon one earth wall, which is used as a defensive spell.
    • El Dona (エル・ドーナ): Al conjures a swarm of earth mana and pinpoints it at the body of a target, usually channeled through a medium, which then the affected area bursts into spikes from the inside out and expands outward. Al can also alter the application of the spell to surround his body in a makeshift armor made of earth.
  • Healing Magic (治癒魔法, Chiyu Mahō): Using water magic, Al is capable of healing wounds. This is enhanced when using another body to heal.
  • Al Goa (アル・ゴーア): Al can unleash a massive inferno. However, he needed to use another body to cast it.
  • Al Karum (アル・クラム): Al creates a black hole of hyper-concentrated gravity that can crush anything that gets caught in it.

Ol Shamak when used against a Witch Factor bearer.

  • Ol Shamak (オル・シャマク): An anti-Witch spell that Al learned under mysterious circumstances, taught to him by Echidna. It is a forbidden art that immobilizes its target, preventing them from moving and ceasing the activity of their body's gate. When activated on a target without a Witch Factor, they are bound in a black light with a contradictory force. The spell can only be used to its full potential when cast on someone with a Witch Factor, encasing them in a completely black orb. Anyone else who enters the vicinity of the spell while it is being used on a Witch Factor bearer will also find themselves captured within the orb. It unusually uses an "Ol" prefix, meaning it classifies as separate from the typical prefix classifications.
  • Al Shario (アル・シャリオ): Al was taught by Echidna a forbidden spell that can literally bring stardust down to earth, which is capable of massacring his enemies, and it was described to be almost impossible to evade. However, due to his own potential with magic, he was incapable of casting it via his own body, and he needed another body in order to truly use the spell.
  • Lightning Magic: By combining fire and water magic to create a thundercloud and combining earth and wind magic to create a lightning rod effect, Al is capable of casting lightning magic, the speed of which surpasses even Reinhard. This magic allows him to bring down bolts of lightning from the sky, cover his weapon in an electrical charge, turn his enemies' weapons into lightning rods, or even create magnetic fields to trap a target in one place.
  • Magia Railgun (マギア・レールガン): By working together with the controlled Volcanica, the two generate two vertical cylindrical formations coated in purple lightning, upon which they can fire a specialized bullet made of Volcanica’s scales molded into the shape of a liuyedao via earth magic. When fired, even Reinhard van Astrea cannot completely avoid damage from it. It is possible for them to fire multiple shots.
  • Optical Camouflage: By combining Yang and Wind Magics, it is possible to bend light and hide one's aura, making the user invisible. However, using this is difficult while moving, even with the Divine Dragon's body, meaning that he would have to stay still in order to use it.

Vast Magical Knowledge: Despite not having the talent to perform most of the spells he was taught, having been taught by Echidna, Al has a great amount of knowledge on most forms of magic. It was because of this that when he took control of Volcanica's body, he was able to cast incredibly large and powerful spells that would otherwise be unavailable to them, and the scale at which said spells would be cast are incredibly large in scale. Likewise, this knowledge extends to forbidden spells created by the Witch, such as Al Shario and Ol Shamak, the former of which could cause destruction on an immeasurable scale and reduce even a large number of Dragons to dust, and the latter of which was made to combat Witch Factor bearers.

Steel Thread Technique (鋼糸術, Kōshi-jutsu): A special shinobi technique that only Yae was able to master that utilizes steel threads carried within certain rings. Unlike Yae, who could use twenty of these rings, it took Al numerous loops just to master using even one of these rings right.

Keen Strategist: Even without his Authority, Al has been shown to create extensively numerous plans in order to get his way, even making use of his Authority repeatedly until things go the direction he wants. In Arc 8, he was quick to give orders to his allies after determining the traps laid out during the early stages of the Conquest of the Undead Capital. More so than that, however, Al was even able to separate the entire Emilia Camp, using the aftermath of the Great Disaster as a way to get into everyone's heads, in preparation for his scheme in Arc 9, as well as prepare for the eventual coming of the Sword Saint, taking even the Divine Dragon into his plot and using the mentality of the camp members to set a trap that could summon even the Witch of Envy.

Equipment:

  • Black Helm: Al wears a black iron helmet which he received when he was at Gladiator Island Ginunhive. His helmet is a replica of a helmet once associated with the Gladiator King.[28][29] The helmet was specially made, and as such, it will not rust and is exceptionally durable.
  • Liuyedao: Al previously owned a liuyedao, and he used it as his primary weapon. However, after tossing it to Cecilus Segmunt, who used the blade to deflect attacks from and attack Arakiya, the blade crumbled because it could not handle the Blue Lightning’s sheer power. That said, Al can create a new liuyedao via earth magic.
  • Poison Packet: As a way to trigger his Authority, Al keeps a poison packet in his mouth that he can smash at any time.
  • Al's Book of the Dead: After leaving the Pleiades Watchtower, Al kept his own Book of the Dead on hand. Any time he is forced to use his Authority, he can use it on the controlled Volcanica to give it an update of his own memories after each death. He can also use it against his enemies in an attempt to mentally attack them.
  • Steel Thread Ring: Al wielded one of Yae's steel thread rings, which allowed him to use the Steel Thread Technique.
  • Divine Dragon's Fang: One of Volcanica's fangs, which is considerably valuable to any merchant. Al could use this to destroy certain complex mechanisms within the Kingdom of Lugunica's Prison Tower.
