Goz Ralfon (ゴズ・ラルフォン) is the Fifth ranking Divine General of the Sacred Vollachia Empire. He played a supporting role in Arc 7 and Arc 8. He also played a small antagonistic role in The Travelogue of the Finest and The Tale of the Scarlet Princess.
Goz is a skilled commander who commands great respect from the Imperial Army as one of its most charismatic generals, and he is absolutely loyal to the Vollachia Empire and its emperor, Vincent Vollachia, willing to give his life for him should the need arise. It is because of his excellent leadership, charisma, and great command over the battlefield, alongside his tremendous strength, that Vincent decided to name him the Fifth of the Nine Divine Generals.

Appearance
Goz is a tall, burly man, slightly taller than Halibel with battle scars covering most of his rough face, brown eyes, and orange-brown hair. He has a beard and clads himself in golden armor that has a red cape attached to the back. In combat, Goz wields a giant golden mace.
Personality
Despite his intimidating physique, Goz is extremely loyal to the Empire and the emperor himself. So much so that he's willing to risk his life for the emperor's safety, despite Vincent losing his title as the emperor of the Vollachia Empire. From what he has shown, Goz always obeys every word from his emperor, which often irritates him and subjects Goz to a barrage of insults. Similarly, he does not abide listening to other people disrespect his emperor, getting unreasonably angry because of it. Most of the time, he is often compared with a dog or an ape, especially when one takes into consideration his habit of using his voice’s excessive volume when speaking.
Of course, with his loyalty comes an excess of pride in being a Vollachian soldier. It is because of this pride that he believes that the country should take care of its own problems, leading him to being heavily against forming alliances with other countries, especially Vollachia’s bitter enemy Lugunica, even if it means the country might survive.
Goz is an honorable man as well, and he will treat anyone who he recognizes as an ally or his savior with respect. Shortly after Rem broke him free from his cuffs and gave him food, he expressed great respect for her and even wished to greet her to his family for what she had done.
As expected from his rank, Goz is well-respected and professional in his work, looking after the Imperial Army by serving as a Divine General and even suggesting replacements for the fallen Divine Generals when asked for feedback. In addition, Goz has a passion for music plays with musical instruments. His love of music led him to meeting his wife at a recital.
History
At an unknown point in time, Goz's love of music led him to meet his future wife at a recital. The two eventually got married, and they had a child.
The Tale of the Scarlet Princess
Around seven years before the main story, Goz and Arakiya were dispatched to the Pendleton estate in an attempt to take custody of Jorah Pendleton and his wife, Priscilla, for a scheduled execution. However, Jorah fended Goz and his escorts off for Priscilla's sake, knowing that he would meet his end in just mere moments.
The Travelogue of the Finest
Roughly four to five months before Subaru's arrival, the seventy-seventh emperor of the Vollachia Empire was targeted by Gramdart Holstoy and Balleroy Temeglyph. In the ensuing chaos, the three Lugunican Royal Guards Reinhard van Astrea, Julius Juukulius, and Ferris, who accompanied the two members of the Council of Wise Men, Miklotov McMahon and Bordeaux Zergev, kidnapped the emperor and fled Lupugana with him. While the Eighth, Sixth, and First ranking Divine Generals were dispatched to locate and bring the emperor back to the Crystal Palace, Goz organized the troops, took the two Lugunican diplomats hostage, and kept the Crystal Palace in as much order as possible. Following Vincent's safe return and the departure of the Kingdom's diplomats, Goz took part in a secret meeting between him, Vincent, the Fourth ranking Divine General Chisha Gold, Moguro, and Groovy, with whom he discussed the incident.
Sword Identity
About two to three months afterwards, Goz took place in a meeting between some of the Divine Generals, the emperor, and the Imperial Prime Minister, Berstetz Fondalfon. The group discussed who should be appointed as the next Ninth ranking Divine General following Balleroy Temeglyph's death. Goz suggested a capable Second General from the Insect Cage Clan by the name of Kafma Irulux, but his suggestion was contested by Berstetz, who hoped to give the seat to a Flying Dragon commander by the name of Madelyn Eschart.
When the Empire's Stargazer prophesized Yorna Mishigure's rebellion, Goz accompanied Cecilus and Arakiya in order to awake Kafma from his pupa and also witnessed Madelyn bring her dragons to the Imperial Capital. Goz and Kafma later joined the other generals in assaulting Chaosflame. While there, Kafma relinquished the idea of becoming a Divine General due to not believing that he was fit enough, putting Goz in a position where he lost credibility due to Kafma's choice.
Imperial Coup
Sometime before the events of Arc 7, he learned of the upcoming Great Disaster. Unfortunately, since his immense loyalty and pride would get in the way of his plans to prevent the disaster, Chisha and Berstetz, the latter of which was unaware of said disaster, had him defeated and locked away beneath Berstetz’s mansion, giving him just enough food and water not to die.
Abilities
Exceptional Physical Capabilities: Goz possesses exceptional physical capabilities that set him apart from the average human.
- Formidable Strength: Goz has considerable strength. A single punch from him has the might to create shockwaves and the power to instantly fell a large-sized witchbeast.[1]
- Excellent Hearing: Goz has an incredible sense of hearing, which enables him to recognize sound on a level higher than the average person and to discern even the nuances in the wind.[2][3]
- Howl (遠吠え, Tōboe): Using his extraordinary hearing and herculean strength, Goz can discern vibrations that are unique to every organism and strike someone with the very same vibrations that his opponents have in the form of a deadly "howl" that is created with a shockwave of sound from his mace. The "howl" only damages the targets whose vibrations match the sound of Goz's mace. This technique was what led Goz to become known as the Lion Knight.
Exceptional Leadership: Among everyone in the Imperial Army, Goz is well-known not just for his attitude, but also for his skills as a leader. Aside from his combat capabilities, his best quality is in being able to command a massive number of forces even while on the frontlines. He commands respect from everyone beneath him and can easily boost their morale, and he has an eye for particular talent among his comrades and is willing to vouch for them for better standings both in rank and on the battlefield. Vincent highly values this even over his martial skill. It is precisely because of this quality that Vincent left him to lead the army in Garkla during the Great Disaster rather than taking him to Lupugana.
Equipment:
- Large Mace: Goz wields a large golden mace in combat. This mace can be disassembled via twisting the spear-like shaft from the striking head of the mace. This mace, so heavy that only someone of Goz's size and strength could wield, is unique in that slamming the shaft into the separated head can generate a powerful sound, allowing Goz to use his "howl".
- Golden Armor: One of the most distinguishing traits of Goz is the golden armor that he wears in battle.
