Bordeaux Zergev

Bordeaux Zergev (ボルドー・ツェルゲフ) is a member of the Council of Wise Men and the former Commander of the Zergev Squadron. He played a supporting role in the Sword Demon Trilogy and The Travelogue of the Finest.

Appearance

Bordeaux is an old bald man with wrinkles and big blue eyebrows. He wears a purple outfit used by the Council of Wise Men with a long coat. Four decades before the start of the main story, Bordeaux was a tall, muscular, and somewhat frightening man, usually donned in heavy iron armor. He had short, spiky light blue hair, and equally thick, blue eyebrows. His eyes radiated a strong fighting spirit.

Personality

He is an honest, frank, and direct sage who does not hesitate to speak his mind. According to Marcos Gildark, he is well known for his demi-human prejudice in the Royal Capital. In his younger days during the war when he was the captain of the Zergev Squadron, he was a far more jovial person and did not have such a negative view of demi-humans. However, this changed when a close friend of his, Pivot Arnancy, was killed during the Demi-Human War. This changed his life, eroding away much of the once free-spirited man and replacing him with a much more wary and stern figure.

History

Sword Demon Love Song

Following the Battle of Castour Field, Bordeaux and Pivot decided to meet Wilhelm, and afterward, Bordeaux and Wilhelm had a few matches. After a few matches with Bordeaux, in which most of the wins went to Wilhelm, the two informed him that he and Grimm Fauzen were both chosen as part of the Zergev Squadron, to which Wilhelm warned that the previous units he was with were both completely annihilated, though neither man seemed to mind. With the great defeat at Castour Field, the Kingdom decided to call in the magic specialist Roswaal J. Mathers to analyze the magic circles used. Eventually, they arrived at Castour Field, where they officially met Roswaal and her bodyguard Carol Remendis. After once again getting into an argument with him, Wilhelm, Grimm, and a few other members of the squadron moved on as a group to the magic circle. Along the way, they ended up fighting a bunch of the undead that were risen by Sphinx. Afterward, meeting up with the Wilhelm's group, Roswaal relayed Sphinx's identity and the threat she bore. Later, he, Grimm, Roswaal, Wilhelm, and Pivot all reported to the Kingdom's officials, including Miklotov McMahon, about the threat.

For 3 years, he and the other members of the Zergev Squadron, and often Roswaal and Carol, were sent to some of the most dangerous and brutal battles of the war, both losing some of the original members of the Squadron and obtaining new members, pushing their numbers upwards of 100. Before long, their sights were set on Aihiya Swamp, where both Valga, Libre Fermi, and possibly Sphinx were supposed to be. Soon, everyone met their new commander, Leip Barielle, who struck Wilhelm for being disrespectful. With Roswaal pacifying him, they and Carol walked away. Despite the others' worry, Wilhelm turned their concerns away, and soon conversation turned to Grimm, who he teased, and his gift from Carol, where he showed the locket had contained a flower that Carol's master had given her.

During the Battle of Aihiya Swamp, Bordeaux fought alongside the rest of the Zergev Squadron as the fighting progressed, soon deciding to move toward the center of the fighting to remove the root of the war itself. There, they came across Libre, who challenged Wilhelm to a duel. Although putting up a good fight, Libre was able to corner Wilhelm and push him back, and in response, Grimm, Bordeaux, and Pivot surrounded Libre to cut him off. However, they were all put under the effects of a wide spanning magic circle, left at the mercy of the demi-humans. With Libre pointing his blade at Bordeaux, Wilhelm attempted to fight him off, only for Libre to nearly kill him. Pivot, instead, jumped in the way of his blade, and as he lay on the ground, he yelled at everyone not to let Wilhelm die, rousing them to take arms against Libre. However, they were all nearly slaughtered, and Grimm, who was able to defend himself for longer than the others, sustained a wound to his throat. Before he could be finished off, Wilhelm pounced Libre and fell into away from the others. Meanwhile, Pivot died in Bordeaux's arms, only to be revived as an undead and attempt to strangle Bordeaux. The barely conscious Grimm managed to push him off and gave Bordeaux a chance to put him to rest. Afterward, while laughing, crying, and cursing the Witch, Bordeaux fought and killed his undead subordinates. Following the battle, he was one of the people who wanted to see the demi-humans slaughtered.

As the military was being reorganized, Bordeaux found himself increasingly busy. Although at one point he got the chance to visit Grimm in the Royal Treatment Center, it was a short visit. He also made sure to warn Wilhelm about going out and about to be prepared in case the demi-humans decided to attack. Before long, uprisings began, and the rebuilt Zergev Squadron began to move. With Wilhelm realizing that the target was the castle, everyone left for it, and with Roswaal's and Carol's assistance, the managed to enter. Inside, Bordeaux left for the audience room while the others made for the chapel. In the audience room, he encountered the undead Libre and battled him, ultimately defeating him. Falling through the floor that had been damaged by a battle beneath him, they came across Bordeaux's allies, and Libre cut off Sphinx's other arm, forcing her to retreat after Libre disintegrated. Leaving Roswaal to chase after her, the others went to assist Wilhelm, who eventually defeated Valga.

Over the following year, Wilhelm became much friendlier with the rest of the squad, leaving Bordeaux proud of him. However, when Wilhelm went to defend his lands during the Battle of the Trias Domain, Bordeaux, Theresia van Astrea, and the rest of the Zergev Squadron went to go save him. After this, Wilhelm was not seen with the army until after the Demi-Human War was over. During the ceremony to award the Sword Saint, Bordeaux attended and bore witness to the battle between Wilhelm and Theresia, and after witnessing his victory and his kissing Theresia, he and the other members of the Zergev Squadron reunited with him.

Sword Demon Love Story

After Wilhelm was released from the Prison Tower and met with Theresia's group, Wilhelm spoke with Bordeaux about rejoining the military, which Bordeaux claimed would be difficult due to having gone AWOL for two years and interrupting an important ceremony afterward. Later, Bordeaux took part in a battle against Wilhelm alongside the rest of the Zergev Squadron in order for him to allow Theresia to retire from the military. Though he was the last man standing, Bordeaux ultimately lost, and he listened as Wilhelm and Theresia became engaged. In the following three months, he was promoted, leaving Wilhelm to become his replacement as commander of the Zergev Squadron. He was also recommended by Wilhelm to free Orphe and use his skills, an action that would later give rise to the Six Tongues organization. One day, he was asked by Theresia to look into the person abusing their authority to move the Zergev Squadron around despite the date of the wedding being so close, and he later informed her that in was her father's doing. A few days later, he informed her of the squad's return, and he was one of the many attendees who watched the two marry.

Sword Demon Battle Ballad

Years later, he participated in the events against Stride Vollachia. After their triumph, Bordeaux retired from the army and stepped into the political world. He also became a teacher of some kind and had several students, including Marcos Gildark and Heinkel Astrea.

Stories of the Great Crusch-sama Opening, Blue's Studies

During Ferris's magic training days in the Royal Capital, Bordeaux did not like Ferris' presence in the training grounds initially, even suggesting to Fourier Lugunica to cut ties with the demi-human from the Argyles. Fourier took this opportunity to impose himself to Bordeaux, saying that he would choose those he would have ties with by himself and that Bordeaux should let go of his demi-human prejudice.
