Camberley

Information

Camberley (カンバリー), commonly known as Kan (カン), is one of the three thugs that attacked Subaru at the very start of story. He later joined the Felt Camp when Felt employed him after Royal Selection began. He plays a supporting role in Arc 9 and an antagonistic role in Arc 1 and Arc 3.

Appearance

Camberley is a short person with brown mushroom hair and large black eyes.

History

The Travelogue of the Finest

Roughly 3 to 4 months before Subaru's arrival, Rachins, Gaston, and Camberley met an Imperial traitor, who paid the trio and fifteen other thugs a fair amount of gold coins in order to tail a Divine General who was after his head. The thugs disobeyed the orders and lured the swordsman into a dark alley, wanting to attack, beat and rob the man. However, as they were dealing with Cecilus Segmunt, the strongest person from the Sacred Vollachia Empire and one of the three men who are about as skilled as Reinhard, they were defeated within a second and left beaten half to death. Following their arrest by the Knight guards who rushed the scene soon after, the three thugs were then approached by Julius Juukulius, Ferris, and Chisha Gold, who wanted to know about Cecilus' location. Upon being promised freedom, they spilled the beans and were subsequently freed, with the money they would have gotten from Gramdart.

Felt-chan Gathers Thugs

After the Royal Selection Ceremony, Felt recruited Camberley, Rachins, and Gaston to join the Felt Camp. They accepted her offer, thus becoming participants in the Royal Selection. Since then, Reinhard van Astrea started to train all three of them so they would grow stronger with his help.

Abilities

Divine Protection (加護 Kago): Camberley has the Divine Protection of Bedroom Wiles (寝技の加護 Nezawa no Kago). This allows the user to be skilled in bed.

Training: After being employed by Felt, he began getting trained by Reinhard and has developed considerable power.

Equipment:

  • Hexcel: A drug produced with a bokko fruit that generates excess mana through the activation of the gate. The mana produced allows Camberley to use even the Star Staff, which could not be used by amateurs. The drug has a narcotic effect, however, and its usage can cause Camberley to bleed from his eyes and nose, his veins bulge, and his insides will be torn apart.
  • Star Staff: A meteor created by the Witch Echidna that allows the user to fire the light of Shario from it without any prior knowledge. It has enough power to wound even Sin Archbishops.

Trivia

  • Ton, Chin, and Kan's names are a play on the Japanese word tonchinkan which means irrelevant or inconsistent.
  • According to the author, Ton, Chin, and Kan don't play an active role after Arc 1 until around Arc 8.[1]
    • As the original plan for Arc 7 changed and it was split into two separate arcs, it can be assumed that this statement about Arc 8 now applies to Arc 9.
  • According to the author, Camberley found himself a girlfriend after the trio joined the Felt Camp. In The Golden Lion and the Sword Saint, Riot in Flanders, this was shown to be Toto.
