Rickert Hoffman

Information

Rickert Hoffman (リッケルト・ホフマン) is the former Royal Instructor of the Kingdom of Lugunica. Debuting in Arc 3's early stages, Rickert has yet to play a pivotal role in the main story.

Appearance

Rickert is a middle-aged man with a thick beard, a small moustache, short slick-back grey hair, and black sanpaku eyes that have bags under them. He can usually be seen wearing a nobles' attire, befitting of his position in the Kingdom.

Personality

Rickert is a man prone to emotionally voicing his own opinions. He disagreed with the Council of Wise Men's decision to select any Royal Selection candidate who happened to be found and instead sought to select people who were suitable for the throne.[1] Rickert was particularly discriminatory of Emilia for being a “half-devil” and Felt for being from the slums, although he later visited the latter to apologize to her once he learned of the possibility that she was the kidnapped daughter of Ford Lugunica.

According to his son Rachins, despite the strain in their relationship, Rickert is a man worthy of respect. Likewise, according to the author himself, he is a "very nice person".

History

In the distant past, during the Subjugation of the Blight Dragon, Rickert was visiting the city of Picoutatte, and he was amidst the crowd that ran through the city streets in a frenzy. Rickert was saved from an impending death by Razak Gildark; however, Razak himself died in the process. As a result, Rickert decided that he wanted to inherent Razak's will. He came to have an amicable relationship with Razak's son, Marcos Gildark.

Rickert became the Royal Instructor, a position he inherited from his family, at an unknown age. He had a son, Rachins, who later left the Hoffman family when he was older and went to the Royal Capital's slums. When Lugunica's royalty perished, Rickert effectively lost his position.
