Roswaal K. Mathers

Appearance

As a child barely the age of 10, Roswaal K. Mathers had a short statue, befitting of a child. His face was well proportioned and very handsome, according to Wilhelm. Just like his ancestors, Karl had shoulder-length indigo hair, very similarly to how Roswaal A. Mathers can be seen during the Sanctuary flashback in Arc 4. On his handsome face, there was a pair of heterochromatic eyes: one blue and one yellow.

Personality

In this incarnation, Roswaal was a reclusive who tended to avoid meeting the people he knew from his past life. He dedicated himself to inventing and producing magicreation tools.

History

Karl was born out of wedlock as the son of Roswaal J. Mathers and Garitch Fabless. During the Demi-Human War, he remained at Roswaal Manor, and was raised by Clind. With Julia kept occupied by her role as the Royal Court Mage during the attacks on the Astrea Mansion, Clind continued to raise Karl. Following the unexpected death of his mother, Karl was possessed by the original Roswaal, and inherited the Roswaal estate, along with its assets.

At some point, Karl began researching numerous things regarding magic. He’d come up with a theory to imbue objects with Yang Magic; he started researching how to create artificial gates in order to overcome gate problems, inspired by his predecessor’s maximum mana capacity being minimal and leaving her with subpar magic capabilities as a result; and he created numerous magic dolls which he used to guard his home.

Eventually, Karl died, and his soul took over his 14-year-old son, Roswaal L. Mathers.

Abilities

Soul Transcription (魂の転写): A lost magic technique that allows a person to transcribe their own soul over another's. By doing this over and over to extend their life indefinitely, the user can achieve what Beatrice termed as "subjective immortality". However, it has one major restriction in that for it to work, the person whose soul is overwritten must usually be of blood-relation to the caster. The spell was originally created by Echidna to gain immortality, but she could not complete it before her demise. Instead, it was finished by Roswaal who had been using it to survive until the present era.

Equipment

• Book of Wisdom (叡智の書): Just like Beatrice, Roswaal was given one of the two complete copies of the Book of Wisdom Echidna created before her ultimate demise. It allows Roswaal to use a limited version of the original Book of Wisdom, as it shows her a detailed path to her desired future. For four centuries, Roswaal strictly acted upon the Book's writ, doing exactly as it was written.

Trivia

• Starting with his original body, Roswaal has been changing his middle initial every time he possesses a new descendant. His original initial was A, making his current body his 11th one.
• All Roswaals middle names follow the English alphabet thematically.
• Following Roswaal K. Mathers' death, the automated dolls remained on active guard duty until Roswaal L. Mathers deactivated them.
