Orphe

Information

Orphe (オルフェ) was the former Director of the Six Tongues. Once a con artist, Orphe met Wilhelm Trias in the Prison Tower when the latter was arrested. Later, when Wilhelm came to visit him, Orphe gave the Sword Demon advice on how to deal with Theresia's situation after receiving a guarantee that a good word would be put in for him. Upon Orphe's release, at Wilhelm's recommendation, Bordeaux Zergev began making use of his skills, resulting in the foundation of the Six Tongues.

Appearance

Orphe is a handsome man with long hair, a neat and tidy appearance, and a pale complexion that suggests a touch of high society. He is described as having a sweet face and voice that could charm anyone regardless of gender.

Personality

A sharp smooth-talker not above acting on his desires, Orphe gained a reputation as a philanderer as a result of swindling six noble women at once. Despite his habits, he is an intelligent man who is skilled with gathering information in a short period of time. He was trusted and capable enough to be appointed as the leader of the Six Tongues. He spoke highly of his smooth-talking, saying it was the only skill he had in his life, and could use it to navigate the Kingdom and get people to reveal to him things that officials would not be told.[1]

History

In the past, Orphe was seeing six different women in the Noble District of the Royal Capital and gave each of them different stories, which resulted in him being called Six Tongues because it was as if he used a different tongue with each of them, and eventually being incarcerated and sent to the Prison Tower. When Wilhelm Trias was imprisoned for invading the ceremony commemorating Theresia van Astrea's achievements in the Demi-Human War at the Royal Castle, Orphe was in the cell directly across from him, and the two briefly spoke before the Sword Demon was released. Sometime later, after speaking with Miklotov McMahon about Theresia's circumstances as the Sword Saint, Wilhelm returned to meet Orphe, receiving advice on what to do in regard to her situation and promising to put in a good word for him and release him sooner upon his readmittance into the army. After Orphe's release from the Prison Tower, Bordeaux had the conman come under his service at Wilhelm's recommendation. In no time, Orphe proved himself a worthy intelligence gatherer, leading to the foundation of the secret intelligence organization bearing his alias, the Six Tongues, becoming its leader.[2][3]

With his new position under Bordeaux's supervision, using his tongue as his primary resource, he had been permitted to do a wide range of things throughout the Royal Capital and the Kingdom as a whole, procuring information that officials such as knights would have been unable to. When meeting with Bordeaux and Wilhelm to discuss the Stride Faction after they had begun attacking Lugunica, he requested permission to contact remnants of the Demi-Human Alliance and interrogate them if necessary. Later, he obtained the information that they had been spotted at Abiate, and discovered that those responsible for sheltering them while they were staying hidden from view were thugs, broke mercenaries, or those who bore hostilities towards the Kingdom, the demi-humans from across the country with lingering negative sentiments against it after the Demi-Human War. He relayed Cragrell Dawson's request to speak with the Sword Saint to Wilhelm and, with the Six Tongues presided over by him, he continued to keep an eye on the remnants of the Demi-Human Alliance.[4] In preparation for Raizo's attack on Gionis Lugunica's life, Roswaal J. Mathers suggested using Clind to counter the shinobi, to which Miklotov approved and Orphe arranged the preparations for to ensure his defeat as smoothly as possible.

Although Orphe's status is unknown in the present, Russell Fellow has succeeded his leadership position to become the current Director of the Six Tongues.

Trivia

  • The name of Orphe's epithet, and by extension, the name of the Six Tongues organization, is likely derived from the Japanese phrase ni-mai jita (二枚舌), an idiomatic expression meaning to lie and contradict oneself, such as in telling someone one version of a story and another a different story.
