Anastasia Hoshin

Anastasia Hoshin (アナスタシア・ホーシン) is the chairman of the Hoshin Company based in the Kararagi City-States and a candidate to become the 42nd monarch of Lugunica. She plays a major role in Arc 5, a supporting role in Arc 3, and a lesser supporting role in Arc 6 and Arc 8.

Originally a commoner raised in the streets of Banan in Kararagi, she became a member of the Chuden Company, and eventually, rose into greater heights as an entrepreneur, creating and leading the Hoshin Company, and keeping the Iron Fang by her side as permanent allies. After a visit to Lugunica in a venture to expand her business, she was discovered by Julius Juukulius to be one of the Royal Selection Candidates. With her goal to expand her business and satisfy her self-proclaimed greed, she remains one of the frontrunners of the selection.

Appearance

Anastasia is a petite woman with blue green eyes and long, wavy purple hair that extends to her hips. She wears a long white dress with a fur hat (similar to the Russian Ushanka) and scarf along with a large purse shaped like a wallet. She also wears a yellow star-shaped hairpin on her hair and a small teal pendant around her neck. She is described to have cute looks and an aura similar to a small animal. Later, in the Water Plumage Inn, she wears a yukata.

During the events of Arc 8, she wore a white kimono with red internal lining, and at the ends of her sleeves and the hem of the kimono, there was a light pink design on it. She also wore sandals and carried a red parasol with tassels on the sides of it. She also had her hair tied in a side ponytail, held up by a flower hairpin, and she continued to wear her scarf.

When she first met Ricardo, Anastasia wore ragged clothes with her body covered in dirt. After Ricardo saved her from becoming a slave, he had cleaned her up and bought her a small pink and purple kimono with polka-dots and gave her a short haircut. When she was 13, she wore a white and blue kimono, but as she got older, she outgrew her hair and wore a long kimono with flowers on her sleeves.

Personality

Anastasia has a crafty personality. She always puts benefitting herself first, though she also likes it when people mutually benefit with her. Anastasia herself admits that she's greedy, and it stems from the fact that she was an orphan. She speaks with a Kansai dialect. Despite her faults, she is actually sympathetic and has a strong sense of duty. She also loves food like daisukiyaki and is mentioned to love liquor.

She is a rather wary person. Though she at first thought of Subaru as nothing more than a loud-mouthed individual, after his success during the Subjugation of the White Whale and Subjugation of Sloth, she immediately looked into his history. Though she ultimately passed him off as just some lucky kid, his actions during the Battle for Priestella reignited her curiosity. Similarly, she is also rather cautious of people similar in shrewdness as herself, such as Priscilla Barielle.

Despite her calm and collected demeanor, there are some people capable of drawing out a more frustrated side of her, such as Halibel, who still treats her like a child. Likewise, other merchants have also been shown to draw out that side of her, such as when she or her knight are ripped off.

She also fears losing the people around her. Just before Julius lost his name to Gluttony, she locked herself away in her Od to prevent her memories of him to leave her, and she refused to come out until Eridna forced her out to restart their relationship.

Anastasia also seems to prefer being around demi-humans, fluffier ones in particular.

History

Anastasia's Rising in Life Memorial Day and Anastasia's Kararagi Merchant Path

Anastasia was an orphaned child in Kararagi who lived in the slums of Banan. Roughly 10 years before the main story, she attempted to save two fox humans from being taken into slaves. However, she nearly got taken as a slave herself, until she was saved by Ricardo. The two got to know each other, and Anastasia eventually stated that she would be the one to remove his slave collar. Ricardo later introduced her to work in a bar. Several months later, Anastasia's business talent was recognized by Chuden Agri, leading her to be taken into his company. Once Ricardo heard about this, he joined the Chuden Company and became a mercenary. He was also offered a new collar with no control crystal to signify his identity as the Hound.

Kararagi Girl Meets Cats

Several months later, Anastasia was kidnapped by a thief and was sold to the Razcrew Company. The head of the company, Didorii, planned to sell her to the slave market north of Kararagi. In the cell, Anastasia met with Mimi Pearlbaton and Hetaro Pearlbaton. She utilized their Divine Protection of Trisection to send a message to Ricardo. The message enabled him to kill Didorii and save the captives. From then on, Anastasia took an interest in the Pearlbaton siblings and frequently visited Roshi Pearlbaton, who adopted the trio, to ask for them.

Kararagi Girl & Cat's Eye

Nine years before the main story, Ricardo was visited by an old friend of his from his time as a slave by the name of Reisel, who asked for help in stealing a meteor inside a cart. They ambushed the fleet but were stopped by Shiroro Tonerico. While Ricardo was fighting with Shiroro, Reisel stole the target cart and abandoned his old friend. However, his plan was inadvertently thwarted by Anastasia, who exchanged the carts. In the cart, Anastasia met an artificial spirit named Echidna, and the two formed a bond. Reisel came back to take the true cart, but he was defeated by Anastasia, Eridna, the Pearlbaton siblings, and Ricardo, who formed a ceasefire with Shiroro.

At some point after this, when Halibel was sent to slay Ricardo for breaking his oath to his fellow wolf human tribesmen, Anastasia stood between them and settled the matter, and she’s kept her connection with the Admirer ever since. Roshi also would go on to make a kamikaze attack while on a mission, blowing up with an enemy in the process. A funeral was held for him, and though Mimi appeared strong at first, cried afterwards, which only Anastasia was aware of.

Anastasia's Prosperity Record

Eventually, she took control of the Chuden Company, purchased its parent company, the Ryuushika Commerce Company, and renamed it into the Hoshin Company, making Chuden the vice chairman. Anastasia sought to expand into Lugunica's market, so she decided to have talks with the Juukulius family. During their meeting, she happened to touch a Dragon Insignia, causing it to shine brightly. This designated her as a candidate for the Royal Selection, and she set her mind on participating. As a result, Julius Juukulius decided to become her knight.

Lugunican Papers

In the year following the Subjugation of the White Whale, she was requested an interview by Shorty Megan and Lululala. Already having a meeting with her rival and fellow candidate Priscilla Barielle, she decided to schedule the interview on the same day. There, they discussed their opinions on the Royal Selection and the other candidates. In particular, both Anastasia and Priscilla claimed that Emilia didn’t stand a chance, as public discrimination against her was heavy as she was a perfect resemblance and of the same race as the Witch of Envy. Even with the slaying of the White Whale and the Sin Archbishop of Sloth under her belt, they claimed that it was an achievement the reflected more on her knight than her, which even Julius agreed with, though Priscilla’s knight Al argued that his achievements also reflect on her. Eventually, the interview came to a close.

Riot in Flanders

Toward the end of the incident in Flanders, the Anastasia Camp came across Mozolite and helped to put end to the incident. There, she met Felt, and the two became friendly with each other.

Anastasia's Companion Searching Chronicle

Following the events of the Pleiades Watchtower Expedition, Anastasia, alongside Julius and Eridna, after leaving the sealed Roy Alphard with the Lugunican government to be imprisoned within the Prison Tower, intending to search for Subaru and Rem, who had been taken by a shadow, decided to enter the Sacred Vollachia Empire via Kararagi through official channels. Upon returning to the City-States, after meeting with the League of Cities and reuniting with Halibel, they learned of a startling incident in Nanou in which the living had been replaced by the undead. Believing the situation might be involved in their goal, Anastasia hired Halibel to accompany her to Vollachia, where, along the way, he explained to Julius the reason for his acquaintance with Anastasia and Ricardo.

Kararagi Reaper Incident

Shortly after the events of the Great Disaster, Anastasia, accompanied by Julius, Halibel, and Eridna, returned to Kararagi, where they decided to report their discoveries to the mayor of the Third City Ivada, Orgo Hayata. Unfortunately, there was yet another problem: the windstorm created by the Slasher, Zarestia, that was thrust upon Banan. After learning of this, she, Eridna, Julius, and Halibel made their way to Banan to meet up with Ricardo. Sometime after Ricardo quelled Zarestia's rage, Anastasia's group arrived and were led to the holding cells in Riften Magoji's mansion, where Zarestia was being held. During their conversation, Anastasia learned that Riften went missing, Julius noticed that Zarestia was a Great Spirit and introduced himself, and Halibel unintentionally riled her up by noticing her strange constitution, that something was missing. However, when Anastasia mentioned Zarestia being responsible for other such town-destroying wind cataclysms, Zarestia declared otherwise, saying that she only rampaged in Banan. Shortly afterward, this is confirmed when a massive tornado appeared outside of Banan, not made by Zarestia. After giving her orders and securing Zarestia's assistance, the group made their way to stop the tornado.
