Mezoreia

Information

Mezoreia (メゾレイア), also known as the Cloud Dragon (雲龍 Unryū), is a Dragon that resides in the Sacred Vollachia Empire, and it is the Dragon responsible for the creation of the dragonkin, Madelyn Eschart. It played an antagonistic role in Arc 7 and Arc 8.

Appearance

Mezoreia is a colossal Dragon with a white body said to be clad in pure white clouds.

Personality

As a dragonhusk, Mezoreia has lost most of its personality and capability of speech after creating a dragonkin. However, because Madelyn is still alive, Mezoreia has not lost its spirit, and it retains traces of its personality. It is shown to be highly protective of Madelyn, treating her as a daughter figure, and it has also shown to be friendly toward any visitors it may receive atop Mount Palzoa, assuming they were not hostile towards it or Madelyn. This being said, it has also shown to be willing to fight anyone who wants to take Madelyn away from it. Even after Madelyn left the mountain, it followed her around, hidden above the clouds, and though it ordinarily did not interfere in actions on the ground, it displayed no issues in following her commands or allowing her to take over its body. Also, similarly to Volcanica, Mezoreia appears to speak in a deific manner.

History

At some point, Mezoreia used its power to create a young Dragonkin girl in exchange for becoming a dragonhusk. Alongside its kin, it lived on the peak of Mount Palzoa, and it spent its days caring for the girl.

After some time, a stranger and his flying dragon, Balleroy Temeglyph and Carillon, found Mezoreia and its Dragonkin after breaking through the cloud sea, something no other human had done before. Balleroy was surprised to see the young girl and the Dragon, and he started coming to spend time with her after this, giving the girl the name Madelyn after someone he once knew and giving her clothes, other gifts, and teaching her how to speak. Despite being initially wary of him, Mezoreia grew used to his presence and allowed him to keep returning to visit. Over time, Balleroy and Madelyn became close, with Madelyn coming to love Balleroy, and he sought to bring her outside of Mount Palzoa. However, disapproving of this, it resulted in a fight between him and Mezoreia. After a grueling fight, they made peace, and Balleroy stopped trying to take her away from the mountain. Eventually, however, he stopped visiting the summit altogether. When Madelyn decided to leave Mount Palzoa, rather than try to stop her, Mezoriea decided to follow her, hiding itself within the clouds above wherever she went.

Abilities

Dragon Breath: Mezoreia’s breath creates a white beam of light that can easily alter terrain. Upon hitting its target, the beam creates a powerful shockwave that makes the ground rise and causes buildings to rip from their foundations.[1]

Draconic Might and Resilience: As a Dragon, Mezoreia has incredible physical might. A single swipe of its hands and claws can easily kill lesser beings, and a swipe of its tail can create widespread damage wherever it lands. Similarly, it has the durability to match its body, being unbelievably hard to damage.

Weather Manipulation: As the Cloud Dragon, it could spread its mana across the heavens in order to generate and manipulate clouds. It usually uses this to hide its form while it flies in the sky. However, it is also capable of concentrating all of its mana through the clouds and making them converge at one point, creating a funnel of thunder clouds that contained enough power to erase both Mezoreia itself and the Imperial Capital. The full extent of this, however, was not revealed, as it was prevented prematurely.

Trivia

  • The Cloud Dragon shares its name with a city in Vollachia. However, there is currently no known connection between it and the Cloud Sea City of Mezoreia.

Perhaps it lasted for less than a second in actuality, but once that burst, the spreading shockwave, originating from the southern portion of the city, engulfed the Fortress City all around, and everything flipped over. Ground rose from the surface, as buildings were ripped from their foundations. Re:Zero Light Novel Volume 30, Chapter 5, Section 9.
