Terriola Goldario

Terriola Goldario (テリオラ・ゴルダリオ) was the advisor and first consort of Eugard Vollachia, as well as a former member of House Goldario prior to its downfall. She worked alongside her brother, Whitaker Goldario, to assist the King of Thorns with succeeding the imperial throne until the Imperial Selection Ceremony's conclusion, at which point he incited a rebellion.

Having been smitten with Eugard, Terriola informed him of her brother's rebellious intent, allowing him to escape and suppress the revolt. After Iris's death at the hands of Volcas, she revealed the existence of the Soul Marriage Curse to Eugard and had a child with him, becoming an ancestor to the modern imperial family after their child succeeded him.

Appearance

Terriola was a beautiful young woman with long, lustrous red hair, narrow amber eyes, and a tall and slender figure. She wore an elegant dress. To signify her severance of the Goldario name after her brother's betrayal, she cut her hair short. According to Eugard, Priscilla Barielle bore her likeness.

Personality

Terriola was a stern woman who had a much more serious, normal outlook on life as opposed to her brother, Whitaker. She was unable fully to mask her true feelings, yet she was also perceptive and capable of acting as an advisor in her own right, although she acted on her brother's instructions sometimes. She yearned for Eugard's affection and was staunchly loyal to him, even prioritizing him over Whitaker when he instigated a rebellion, disavowing his misdeeds. Having pined for Eugard, Terriola understood that Iris was his true love, putting the village girl's feelings over her own during her tenure as an advisor and suggesting that he employ the Soul Marriage Curse after her murder in hopes that he could one day reunite with his beloved. Her loyalty did not extend to all of Eugard's decisions, however, as she disobeyed his decree to achieve her own goal.

History

As the King of Thorns, Eugard Elcanti, began to show interest in involving himself in the Imperial Selection Ceremony, a move unexpected from him, Terriola watched him and the other candidates from the sidelines with her brother, the head of the Goldario family, Whitaker. After Whitaker finished his introduction to Eugard, he spoke with Terriola about the King of Thorns and his relationship with Iris, and expressed awareness of his sister's interest in the man.

She soon became Eugard's advisor and met Iris for the first time, informing her that the King of Thorns and Whitaker were fully confident that their victory in the Imperial Selection Ceremony was all but guaranteed. Iris also perceived the woman's feelings for Eugard and felt inferior to her, but Terriola reassured that she would provide her support because she could not be at his side, while her counterpart could. Terriola built a positive relationship between her and Iris, often spending free time with her. She continued to support Eugard's candidacy, performing deeds such such as holding negotiations with the families of opposing royals at Whitaker's instruction or providing logistical support to the disciplinary unit to speed up the process of the Imperial Selection Ceremony. When the construction of a tent at the edge of the army's encampment was made, she spoke to him over a Conversation Mirror to notify him. With the strategy being to end the Imperial Selection Ceremony as soon as possible, he prepared to attend a council of war and ended their conversation.

The fallout of Iris being cured of her Battle Craze Syndrome and falling victim to Eugard's Curse of Throns resulted in Volcas aiming his claws over Whitaker's neck in rage, pinning him responsible for Iris having succumbed to Eugard's curse, only being stopped from taking his life by Terriola. Attributing the herbs as having produced this situation, Volcas was countered by Whitaker by mentioning Iris's preexisting illness. Volcas then left to see Iris, leaving the siblings to continue preparing for Eugard's coronation. Alone, the two spoke about the unexpectedness of Iris losing her resistance to the Curse of Thorns, with Whitaker saying that curing her had “backfired”, rousing suspicion in Terriola. Eugard's Curse of Thorns had expanded in its scope and began to pierce people through Conversation Mirrors, leaving only indirect communication as the only remaining method to viably contact him with. As Terriola left to continue preparing for the coronation, she saw Whitaker muttering to himself, wondering what the most “dramatic” plot twist from there would be.

Sometime thereafter, Whitaker launched a rebellion against Eugard, intending to murder him prior to his coronation and install himself on the throne. However, Terriola intervened before his assassination could be carried out, aiding Eugard in escaping the Imperial Residence in the Imperial Capital before it was set ablaze. Regarding his sister a traitor and knowing that she had loved Eugard, Whitaker imprisoned Terriola, and the siblings argued. Whitaker had come to the conclusion that Eugard needed to be dispatched because his Curse of Thorns was going haywire, believing there was no other option, which Terriola vehemently refused to accept, being under the impression that this was his intention from the start. She expressed her abhorrence for her brother, receiving no answer in return.

Once her brother's rebellion failed and her house fell into ruin, Terriola cut her hair to signify her severance of the Goldario name. Swearing her fealty to Eugard, she gathered the shinobi that served the Goldario family to cooperate with him. However, they could not stop Volcas from murdering Iris. At Iris's funeral, Terriola revealed the existence of the Soul Marriage Curse to Eugard in an attempt to ensure that he and his lover could reunite someday. To withstand Eugard's Curse of Thorns, she drank poison, imploring him to produce an heir with her to fulfill his duty as emperor while directing his true love to his one and only Iris, and that she would be the first to bear an heir. Eugard responded that he would consider her proposal, but that the matter of choosing to cast the Soul Marriage Curse would be his alone.

Following her conversation with Eugard, she spoke with Lynek, whom she had kept hidden to brew poison for her and to protect him from the imminent policy that decreed the execution of all wolf people and mole people. Despite the decree, Lynek had no words of apology for his brethren, as he and Volcas had made their decisions, and he chose to prioritize Eugard and Iris over his pack. She prepared a refuge for him at the Gladiator Island surrounded by Lake Violane and considered turning it into a prison for convicts to act as a distraction for him. Affirming to him that she had not spoken of her feelings for Eugard to him so she would not be a thief like her brother, the Thief Emperor, she wished Lynek well, and he set off for Lake Violane.

At some point, Eugard accepted Terriola's proposal, and the two produced a child. As a consequence of the effects of the poison she ingested multiple times to resist the Curse of Thorns, Terriola died at a young age. Before her death, she confessed her true feelings to Eugard. The child she gave birth to went on to achieve victory in the Imperial Selection Ceremony and become Vollachia's sixty-second emperor, making Terriola an ancestor to the modern imperial family.
