Family
Ram
Throughout their childhood, due to pressure from their village, Rem would always try to match Ram in ability and always came up short. eventually, she gave up and decided she should leave everything to Ram. Growing up in her sister's shadow, Rem greatly admired her older sister, but she also had some lingering resentment and feelings of self-inferiority. However, that resentment turned into guilt after Ram lost her horn. Seeing Ram weaker and in pain caused Rem a deep sense of grief. She realized she could no longer rely on Ram as she did before, and she decided she would become the horn that Ram lost.
In an attempt to replace Ram, Rem would often try to imitate her, doing things such as maintaining the same hairstyle as Ram, and adjust her clothes to hide her bust size. Eventually, Subaru helped convince Rem that she and her sister were two different people. And she began breaking the mindset that she needed to be like her sister. After this event, Rem would often reach out to Ram to help her in her relationship activities with Subaru. Rem still maintains a very high opinion of Ram. She often compares Ram to other girls she interacts with saying that they cannot compete with her sister as she views Ram as the ideal image of womanhood. Rem and Ram as twins share a very deep bond. For example, although they have different personalities, the sisters easily understand each other and even instinctively synchronize their thoughts or actions, if necessary.
In the past, this has even led to her being overly protective of Ram when boys show any interest in her. The fact that Garfiel seemed disrespectful to his own sibling, and that she saw Subaru as a potential spy for the Witch Cult, only increased her antagonism. But over time, her emotions softened significantly as she got to know both boys better and shed much of her inferiority complex thanks to Subaru.
After her name and memories were devoured, Ram would forget about her sister entirely. However, through Subaru’s efforts and through the feeling of Synesthesia, Ram managed to regain some of her protective feelings toward Rem. Later on, after Rem awoke without her memories, when they reunited, though neither could remember the other, they managed to regain the semblance of being sisters, and they became nearly as close as they used to be. After returning to the manor, Ram gave Rem a tour of the grounds, during which she and Ram regained their memories due to Roy Alphard regurgitating them along with Rem's name. While Ram silently cried for having forgotten about Rem for so long, Rem apologized for having worried her in the first place, and the two held each other in their arms.
Emilia Camp
Natsuki Subaru
When the two first met, their relationship was hostile as Rem could sense the scent of the Witch of Envy emanating off of him, causing her to be suspicious of him. This would lead her to take his life once, as well as directly attack him with the assistance of Ram who prevents him from fleeing by cutting his leg off and brutally torturing him for information before Ram finally killed him; an act that would spark fear in Subaru's heart. After she died from the curse that was originally meant for Subaru in another timeline, he remembered the compassion she and her sister showed him while he was sleeping and resolved to save Rem. When he confirmed the source of the curse, he worked with Rem to protect the villagers and ended up saving her from the Demon Beasts at the cost of getting cursed again. This would lead her to attempt to destroy all the Demon Beasts at the cost of her own life until Subaru and Ram were able to return her to her sense before Roswaal's grand arrival who later took care of all the surrounding Demon Beasts, burning them to ash. Afterwards, he would convince her to let go of her past resentful feelings and look to the future.
After being rescued by Subaru, both physically and emotionally, Rem quickly develops strong romantic feelings for him. In her own words, he became a hero in her eyes, and feeling responsible for her importance to him, Rem took on the functions of moral support and combat protection for Subaru, such as when she restrained his despair and returned Subaru's faith in himself before the final battle of the 3rd Arc, arguing that "the person who saved her and who she loves cannot despair and give up."
Before the battle with the White Whale, Rem also proposed to become Subaru's second wife and after the battle, she even went as far as to fake her death to force a confession out of him. From this, Subaru told Rem that he will take her as his "second wife" only if Emilia agrees to it and Rem says she will try her best to persuade Emilia. Later while riding in the dragon carriage with Emilia, Subaru admits to her that he loves the two of them more or less equally.
After the defeat of the White Whale, Rem's convoy was ambushed by the Sin Archbishops of Greed and Gluttony which resulted in Gluttony eating her name and memories, effectively erasing her existence from the world and everyone's memories, putting her into suspended animation. After learning of her bizarre and incurable condition, Subaru started blaming himself for what happened and even went as far as committing suicide and testing where the last "save point". After realizing how there's no way of saving her from the grasp of Gluttony's Authority, he vowed himself to defeat the Sin Archbishops and save her.
During the events of Arc 4, the Witch of Lust Carmilla takes on Rem's appearance as Subaru still viewed Rem as his mental support and cherished her after he was left devastated due to the second trial.
One of Subaru's main goals was to wake Rem from her slumber. Although during the events in Arc 5, he asked Julius to take care of the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony and prioritized rescuing Emilia from Greed's grasp. Later, during Arc 6, Rem manifested in the Corridor of Memories in front of an amnesiac, despairing Subaru and revitalized his will to stand up and save everyone.
Roughly a year and several months after the incident in which Rem lost her memories and name, Subaru and his companions managed to defeat Lye Batenkaitos in the climax of the sixth arc which resulted in Rem awakening but suffering from a sort of amnesia as her memories have not returned and she's unable to remember Subaru. As a result, her interactions with Subaru have reverted to the hostility of before, due in part to the scent of the Witch of Envy and that fact that he tried to abandon an amnesiac Rui Arneb, who, as far as Rem could tell, was just an innocent child. She attempted to flee from him and set up several traps to keep him at bay but was eventually forced to work with him.
Over the course of their time in Vollachia, Rem’s former feelings for Subaru seemed to slowly return, but due to her missing memories, these inexplicable feelings only manage confuse her more as she didn't understand nor remember why she feels the way she does about Subaru. This only worsens upon seeing Emilia’s interactions with him in Arc 8. As she saw Subaru off from Garkla’s main building, she called out to him expecting him to return and tell her everything when he came back, a big smile on her face.
When the two were leaving Vollachia, they each felt troubled by their journey up to this point, and they shared in the pain of Priscilla’s death and their temporary departure with Spica. After returning to Lugunica, when Subaru decided to go to the Pleiades Watchtower again, where he had been flung from in the first place, Rem teased him by claiming that she would be sure not to remember anything until he returned safely, using that as a means of encouragement. Despite that, Rem regained her memories after they and her name were regurgitated by Roy Alphard, after which she starts referring to Subaru as "Subaru-kun" like she did in the past, and she intended to tell him how she loved him again. After being picked up by Clind, she offered her assistance to rescue Subaru from Aldebaran.
Upon remembering her relationship with Subaru, Rem began to feel immense guilt towards how she treated him after she woke up in her amnesiac state, to the point she offered to break her fingers to make up for it. After learning about Aldebaran's Authority, Rem begins to suspect that Subaru has a similar ability, though she doesn't know the requirements to activate it. Regardless, learning this makes Rem's admiration for Subaru deepen once she realizes he only used its power to help others, and strengthened her resolve to rescue him.
Roswaal L. Mathers
Roswaal took Rem and Ram under his wing and is shown to deeply care for them, as seen when Rem died of unknown causes and he immediately suspected Subaru for her death (he was even prepared to kill him, much like Ram). Due to Lye Batenkaitos eating her name and memories and leaving her in a comatose state, Roswaal no longer remembers her, though he does allow Subaru to let her stay in the mansion. Ram later made the assumption that the reason he allowed this was not just because of Subaru but also because he realized how she could act as Ram's horn, which would in turn also help himself.
Emilia
Rem and Emilia began with a very distant relationship. From Rem's perspective, only Ram was important to her, and she was not interested in those who were not connected to her. She decided that the relationship should not go beyond supporting Emilia more than following Roswaal's orders. As such, Rem would attempt to protect Emilia from those she viewed as trying to exploit her. During Arc 2 Emilia helped Rem trust Subaru by sharing her opinion of him while he was sleeping, that he was a good person. Rem considered this opinion when deciding whether Subaru was an enemy or not.
After the Wolgarm incident, Rem and Emilia eventually connected when Emilia invited Rem to sit with her for tea. During this conversation, Rem realized that she was not happy with the current state of their relationship and aimed to change it. They exchanged some friendly banter and ended the conversation with Rem telling Emilia that she genuinely supports her in the Royal Selection and will do what she can to help.
Emilia and Rem both make comments about each other's appearances. Rem thought Emilia was beautiful, even in comparison to Ram, and Emilia often comments on how cute Rem looks. Emilia also noticed Rem's "Transformation", which she liked, but she was a bit envious that if felt like the worry in Rem's heart had disappeared.
Rem and Emilia share several moments together, such as cuddling while drunk, reflecting on their pasts, and helping Subaru write a love song.
During Arc 3, Rem reflects on her relationship with Emilia. She feels conflicted because, although she enjoys the time she has spent with Emilia so far, she also experiences jealousy due to her awareness of Subaru's feelings for Emilia.
After her memories and name were devoured, Emilia forgot about her. However, realizing how close Subaru was to Rem, not to mention how he described her, she wanted to meet her and talk with her when she woke up.
In Arc 8, the two met during the escape from Lupugana, causing Emilia to burst out in surprise. Soon after, the two would go to search for him together, saving him from Todd. The two haven’t had much in the way of conversation since, but when Rem sees Subaru and Emilia interact with each other, she is left confused by her feelings of jealousy, which she does not seem to realize is said emotion.
Garfiel Tinzel
Rem has been familiar with Garfiel since her childhood. She met him roughly one and a half years after moving into the Roswaal Manor. Despite how long Rem has known him, their relationship could be best described as poor. Garfiel's constant displays of affection toward Ram, coupled with Rem's protectiveness of her sister, caused them to repeatedly butt heads. Additionally, Rem expressed displeasure toward him due to his disinterest in sending letters to Frederica. For Rem, who loved Ram so much, Garfiel’s treatment of his older sister was unacceptable.
After Natsuki Subaru came to the mansion, Rem began to understand that Garfiel's feelings for Ram were similar to her feelings for Subaru. She felt she had been too harsh on him regarding his affection in the past and decided she would apologize to him the next time they meet.
Patrasche
In the Royal Capital, Rem would show surprise at Patrasche’s willingness to ride with Subaru, despite the pride that comes with her specific species of earth dragon. However, she would form a small sense of rivalry with Patrasche because of this. When Ferris teased her about being pouty, Rem would challenge herself to get along with Patrasche, though she and the earth dragon would end up in a quiet stare-off immediately after.
However, like the others, Patrasche would also forget her after Lye devoured her name and memories. Despite that, Patrasche was more than willing to protect the sleeping girl from the very same Sin Archbishop, taking numerous attacks from him in an effort to shield her from harm.
Petra Leyte
Rem was partially responsible for saving Petra's life during the Wolgarm Incident. Sometime after that, the two met officially in Roswaal Manor. Despite being friendly, Petra immediately felt a sense of rivalry with her after realizing that she had feelings for Subaru. Later on, when their memories returned, Petra, influenced by the Book of the Dead she read, was happy to see her again, and she struggled to separate her own emotions from Subaru's, something which caused Rem both confusion and happiness. Because of this, when Petra stopped her from breaking her fingers in repentance for how she treated Subaru in the Empire and spoke with her seriously, she could see Subaru reflected in her, leaving her in pause. Likewise, when she started to suspect Subaru's ability to go back in time and change things, Petra stopped her from saying anything, leading Rem to realize that Petra knows as well, and as such, Petra confided her trust in Rem for Subaru's sake.
Crusch Camp
Crusch Karsten
Rem sees Crusch in a very positive light, as she is always valiant and composed. In Rem's eyes, Crusch is an ideal image of womanhood, though not as ideal as Ram.
Anastasia Camp
Anastasia Hoshin
Rem and Anastasia briefly interacted during the preparation phase of the Subjugation of the White Whale. Upon watching Rem, Anastasia admired her work ethic in helping everyone prepare for the encounter. Due to this, she attempted to recruit Rem to her camp, though Rem respectfully declined her request, claiming her loyalty lies with Subaru.
Priscilla Camp
Priscilla Barielle
Though the two never met before her memories were lost, in Guaral, she recognized that Rem had a lacking sense of self due to her lack of memories, and when she saw off Subaru, Priscilla decided to take Rem under her wing during the time they would stay in Guaral. During this time, Priscilla would end up helping her regain a sense of self, albeit speaking in her own arrogant way.
Schult
Though the two only had interactions during Rem’s short time working for Priscilla, the two got along very well and respected each other. The two even helped each other in the tasks they were handling.
Imperial Family
Vincent Vollachia
Under the name of Abel, the two would be forced to work together. While Rem was not very fond of Abel’s attitude, she recognized his abilities as a leader and his foresight. Similarly, he would find her use of healing magic useful. For a time, however, the two would not meet, not until the retreat on the coupled dragon carriage. During this retreat, Rem would attempt to tell Abel that Subaru was not his enemy, not backing down, even in the face of the emperor.
Nine Divine Generals
Goz Ralfon
While trying to find an escape route from Berstetz’s mansion, she would stumble upon a secret room that held a weakened Goz held prisoner. She assisted him in breaking out of this prison, and as he prepared to leave to take down Chisha and Berstetz for their treachery, he was grateful to her and expressed his wish to one day greet his savior to his family. Rem, meanwhile, was left somewhat dumbfounded with his loud voice and sheer strength.
Madelyn Eschart
The two shared a hostile relationship. Madelyn was prepared to kill Rem had Flop not intervened and took the blow. In an attempt to extend their lives, Rem made a deal with Madelyn to end the attack on Guaral if she healed Flop, causing the young Dragonkin to bring her back to the imperial capital. During this time, Madelyn would confront Rem a few times to know when she would be finished healing Flop, and when Rem talked back to her once, Madelyn was ready to hurt her if not for her role and Katya trying to apologize for her rudeness.
Imperial Army
Jamal Aurélie
When they first met, Rem was immediately hostile towards the man as he was trying to take her, Subaru, and Spica prisoner. The two would end up holding a grudge towards each other. Later, on the coupled dragon carriage, Rem would learn of the man’s relationship to Katya, and the latter would appreciate her being a friend and support to Katya.
Todd Fang
Like with Jamal, Rem and Todd got off on a bad note with her hostility to the imperial soldiers. Her impression of him would get worse in Guaral, where he, alongside Jamal, stood in the way of their escape. They would meet once again in Lupugana, where they would be forced to work together because of his relationship with Katya and due to the current active disaster. Ultimately, however, when Todd and Subaru are separated from Rem and the others they were with, Emilia and Rem would prevent him from killing Subaru, with Rem none the wiser that the werewolf was Todd.
Vollachians
Flop O'Connell
Rem and Flop met outside of Guaral, and the man also helped her group escape from the fortress. Hearing Flop’s discussion with Vincent, she would come to respect his point of view, although she would also realize that it was unrealistic. Later, when he was cut down protecting Rem, she forced a deal to heal him in the imperial capital.
Over time, the two would use his condition as a means to extend their lives, as they had no way of knowing whether they would be spared. This turned out to be a wise move, and the two would end up working together to escape during the upcoming battle.
Katya Aurélie
After being brought to Berstetz’s mansion, she would come across the woman in the garden, and she would go to talk to her and help her. Despite the woman’s timidity and habit of trying to push her away, Rem continued as if it were no big deal and even ended up befriending the woman. In the time they spent in the mansion, the two ended up becoming rather close, and they often talked about life outside the mansion, including their relationships with the people closest to them.
Later, after Katya apparently lost Todd, Rem would act as an emotional pillar for Katya as she broke down into tears. The two remained side by side for the rest of the time that Rem remained in Vollachia, with Katya even acting like a pillar for her after Priscilla’s death. Before her departure, the two decided to share letters with each other.
Berstetz Fondalfon
Upon being brought to Lupugana, she would meet with the old man who was partially responsible for the coup. When he expressed his opinion regarding Vincent and his duties, she sensed no lies, and she even somewhat respected his opinion.
Witch Cult
Regulus Corneas
Towards the end of Arc 3, Regulus attacked the convoy heading towards the Royal Capital, where the two would encounter each other. As a Sin Archbishop of the Witch Cult, she despised the man, though she knew she was completely outmatched by him after he swiftly defeated Crusch. During this encounter, she would claim that a hero, Natsuki Subaru, would defeat them and the entire Witch Cult, before she declared her name as someone who serves that hero. Regulus would then assist his fellow Sin Archbishop in defeating her, and after she had her name and memories devoured, he completely forgot about her existence.
Lye Batenkaitos
Like with Regulus, she would encounter Gluttony during the return to the Royal Capital in Arc 3. As a Sin Archbishop, she hated the boy. Giving the same speech and title as she did with Regulus, she would engage in combat with Lye, only to be defeated. Lye would then devour her name and memories, and she would be left in the Sleeping Beauty state.
Other
Spica
When Rem awoke from her slumber, she only saw Spica as a child, unaware of her history. Because of this, her presence would cause a wedge in her relationship with Subaru, who was fearful and disdainful to the girl. Taking Spica with her, Rem would try to escape Subaru. Unfortunately, thanks to Spica, Subaru would find them, and they’d have to stay together.
Spica was attached to Rem as much as she was to Subaru, often seen hugging Rem around the waist like a big sister or mother figure. Despite being fond of Spica herself, she would begin to wonder about Spica’s connection to her when comparing Subaru’s reaction to Spica to others like Utakata.
When Spica stowed away on the carriage leading to Chaosflame, Rem would worry for Spica’s safety with Subaru, and she would not see her again until the retreat from Lupugana. While on the coupled dragon carriage, she would finally learn Spica’s connection to Subaru, something she had begun to suspect herself, and why Subaru hated her. Rem did not wish to know the truth, but being forced to face it left her in disbelief, and she even tackled the infantilized Subaru over it. However, when Subaru offered her the name Spica and a chance to restart, Rem embraced Spica, and the two broke down in tears.
Before her departure for Lugunica, Rem was rather hesitant about leaving Spica temporarily in Vollachia. However, she accepted it, knowing that she had to do so to help her boost her image and keep her from being killed. Before they left, she walked with Spica hand in hand alongside Subaru.
