Zank Metley (ザンク・メトレイ) is a former Temple Knight of the Gustekan Church.
Appearance
Zank is a tall man in his twenties with short, brown hair and dark skin.
Personality
Zank at first comes off as a cold zealot who, as a Temple Knight, is willing to go to any length to eliminate heretics. However, unlike other followers of the Church, he is not as quick to condemn everyone involved with said heretic, and he has shown to be willing to work with others to accomplish his goals. He had always questioned the teachings of the Church, and when those very teachings put his fiancée, who he cares greatly for and is willing to kill to protect, at risk of being killed by the very people she fought with, he decided to go against those teachings, even going as far as to kill other followers. This made him wary of other followers, such as Noelle Tuérico, and after confronting Omega, his faith in the church was gone.
History
Omega in Wonderland
Having grown up in the same village as Mikli, the two joined the Church together, rising in both strength and rank until eventually, the two became Temple Knights of the Church, and after meeting the Holy King, they suggested for the two to marry, which they accepted. However, before the ceremony could take place, Mikli was sent to hunt a heretic, which led to her going missing. Because of this, Zank decided to take other followers and retrieve Mikli from the heretic. However, after witnessing the town of Sylphoa, where Mikli had gone missing, under a sleep spell, his followers suggested to kill everyone in the town, including Mikli, claiming that it was in accordance with the teachings and Holy Will. In response, Zank killed all five followers who had traveled with him, and he set up a barrier around the town to prevent others from entering the town's vicinity.
At some point after this, Omega's party arrived in Sylphoa, Omega having dispelled his barrier, and Omega and Colette had passed out. Meeting with Noelle and Palmyra, who had been able to ignore the spell thanks to Noelle's seal, he took their group to a large tent that only he was using. However, after explaining what was going on and finding conflict with Palmyra, who did not adhere to the Church's teachings, Colette's unconscious body turned into her beast form, a result of her Beast Protection Bracelet detecting danger, to protect everyone, and with Zank declaring her a heretic, Colette took Palmyra and Omega out of the tent, leaving Noelle to negotiate to take care of the more pressing matter of the town's sleep spell, leading to a temporary alliance between the two.
Shortly after this, Noelle found Shion, who was partially responsible for the town falling asleep. She warned Noelle that Zank killed all of his allies, and shortly after, Zank began fighting with Noelle and the beastified Colette. However, after Palmyra awoke and claimed that Mikli was still alive, Zank spoke with Omega, who had also awoken. After Omega told him to claim that the heretic was dead to the Church, he would need to resign, and because Mikli had lost her blessing permanently, she would also likely lose her position as a Temple Knight. After being told that he couldn't chase both being a follower of the Church and his fiancée, his faith in the Church was completely broken, and he left with Mikli, deciding to resign from the Church.
Abilities
- Blessing of People Repulsion (人除けの祝福, Hito Noke no Shukufuku): As a Temple Knight, Zank has the Blessing of People Repulsion, a red-colored spirit that creates barriers. It can create invisible small, short-range barriers, as well as a large barrier, which each make prevent people from being able to trespass beyond the barriers. It takes considerable skill to create barriers around a larger area and gives those who approach it a strange feeling. In addition, the Blessing's effects can be broken through with magic.
