Shion (シオン) is a wandering dream arts user. She, alongside Lilac, later joined the Omega Party.
Appearance
Shion has orange eyes with blue pupils, and as an elf, she also has pointed ears. She has long green hair with a ponytail on her right side. Her attire consists of a short white cloak with a green diamond-shaped pattern in the inside, a white and brown dress that is like a huntress wears, and white high-end boots. She also adorns an orange rose on her left shoulder, a dagger wrapped around on her hips, and a small gold locket around her neck.
Since Shion shares the same physical vessel as Lilac, whenever her personality manifests in their vessel, its appearance instantly shifts to match hers.
Personality
Shion is a rather friendly person who is easy to talk to, and she does not like dragging others into her messes if she can help it, even going as far as to ask a stranger to help her speak to her other half, Lilac. Due to being a Dream Arts User, however, her sense of self is somewhat fuzzy, and because she is so synchronized with others, she can find herself becoming influenced by other people's memories, including taking on their speech quirks. It is because of this that she can often be heard speaking with numerous loan words, having picked them up from passing memories of a person who uses them. She is somewhat driven by her goal to find the person who uses these words, even being willing to follow Omega as part of her party for the chance to learn of the person who uses them.
History
At an unknown point in time, Shion and Lilac skimmed across the memories of a certain person, from which the two learned numerous loan words which have become incorporated into their speech. The two now search for that person, connected to an unknown goal.
Omega in Wonderland
At some point, she and Lilac appeared in Gusteko. However, they were deemed heretics by the Gustekan Church, causing them to send a Temple Knight after them. At some point after entering the town of Sylphoa, they confronted Mikli, and Lilac, having had no time to aim, used her Dream Arts to put her, and accidentally, the entire town, to sleep. Unable to contact Lilac after this, Shion remained in Sylphoa, where eventually, another Temple Knight and his cohorts arrived. However, shortly after arriving, she felt her connections to them start to vanish, despite attempting to bring them into the dream world.
Sometime later, after having witnessed a beast escaping with two girls, Shion spoke with one of them, Palmyra, and while introducing herself, she asked for Palmyra's assistance. After explaining the situation to her, she used her hypnosis magic to put Palmyra to sleep, giving her a message to pass along to Lilac. Shortly after, she came face to face with Noelle Tuérico, who was making hostile remarks and threatening violence toward her if she didn't undo her spell, not listening to anything Shion would say. Just before Noelle flew into violence, however, she warned Noelle that the person she was working with, the other Temple Knight, killed his allies and might do the same to her. This led to a fight immediately afterward between said Temple Knight and Noelle and the beastified Colette. However, this did not last, as Palmyra awoke and told the man that his fiancée Mikli, the other Temple Knight, was still alive.
Following this, after Omega spoke to the man and had him leave with Mikli and report the death of the heretic, Lilac released the people of Sylphoa from her dream world, and Omega offered Shion and Lilac to join her party. Since she couldn't quite trust the two, having just met them, she would give them a chance to look into her memories with their Dream Arts, giving them a chance to find the person from which the loan words they speak come from. The two accepted her offer and joined the party.
Abilities
Magic (魔法, Mahō): Shion is skilled at using dream arts.
- Dream Arts: An unusual form of magic that is all but lost from the world in the present and is trained by using people as test subjects. After the person falls asleep, the practitioner must learn to sense and attune themselves to the person's Od before they die. Her proficiency with Dream Arts is considered impressive by Omega, who herself can use Dream Arts, and even surpasses her, being able to put an entire town to sleep for long periods of time and create a dream space larger than the Castle of Dreams. According to Omega, due to her talent, lifespan, and dedication to the art, she has the potential to be called a Witch.
- Hypnosis Magic: A form of magic that temporarily stops mana from flowing into the target's Od, severing their consciousness from reality. Hypnosis Magic is considered the specialty of Dream Arts Users.
- Musa (ムーサ): Shion possesses a type of dream arts called Musa. She uses it to break barriers that were protecting opponents. This spell is exclusive to non-canon media and should not be considered canon.
- El Musa (エル・ムーサ): A stronger version of Musa. She discharges a giant grey ball from her hands and fires them. This spell is exclusive to non-canon media and should not be considered canon.
- Phantom User: Shion has an ability to create and manipulate phantoms. It was an ancient ability that was lost a long time ago. It allows the user to steal a person's memories and manipulate their consciousness. Because Dream Arts' usage requires that the user be asleep, having a phantom allows her to bypass this rule, with her phantom being able to manipulate the dream world while Shion can remain awake.
- Thought Implantation: Using Dream Arts, it is possible to place a thought into another person's head and leave them to act on it, such as making a person think of the user as an ally and making them stop any pursuers chasing after them.
- Memory Scouring: As a Dream Arts user, Shion is attuned to other people and is influenced by their memories. Likewise, if she chooses to, she can look into another person's memories to extract specific information. However, their target may show resistance, preventing her from reaching the memory she is looking for.
Equipment: Shion carries a dagger around on her hip. However proficient she is with it is unknown.
Trivia
- Both Shion and Lilac initially debuted in the non-canon video game Re:Zero Lost in Memories. However, they were later written to be canon characters in The Witch's After Tea Party / Omega in Wonderland.
- In Lost in Memories, Subaru found Shion in the Remembrance Village, a world created from his memory. She was the navigator who helped him recover his lost memories. In addition, the name Shion was given to her by Subaru; she was previously nameless.
- According to the author, Shion's birthday is September 9, the same day as Lilac.
- Like Lilac, whose name shares a similar origin, Shion's name comes from a flower called Aster Tataricus, also known as Shion (紫苑). The flower has a meaning in Hanakotoba, the Japanese language of flowers, which corresponds to "I won't forget you." It is reference to the theme of Lost in Memories and was a name that was given to Shion by Subaru within the game itself.
