Family
Priscilla Barielle
Priscilla is Vincent's younger paternal half-sister. Vincent met Prisca during his childhood, and among all of his sixty-six siblings, she was his favorite, and vice versa. Vincent was the only one of them whom Prisca addressed as a sibling and respected, and he was also one of the few people whom she trusted in general. Vincent appreciated her audacious, pert attitude, while Prisca deemed Vincent's boldness to be the closest match to her own.
While their interactions usually consisted of sardonic banter that seemed to border on hostility, despite appearances, they were quite fond of each other and did not shy away from idiosyncratic but genuine displays of affection.
Vincent assumed a supportive role, sending Prisca books out of genuine concern for her development and education, plus assisting her in other matters such as handling the aftermath of assassination attempts that she faced. While he was also protective of her, Vincent trusted Prisca to make wise choices and believed that she would never do anything unreasonable.
Both Vincent and Prisca were aware of the fact that they were supposed to fight to death in the Imperial Selection, yet the two chose to keep a mutually amicable relationship. This was a notable contrast to most of their siblings, who, considering their future role in the Imperial Selection, preferred to act distant with one another.
When the Imperial Selection began, Prisca collaborated with Vincent, who later devised a plan to feign her death and grant her a chance to continue her life under a new identity. Thus, Prisca became Priscilla.
Although she did not consent to that plan, Priscilla does not resent Vincent, nor does she doubt his love for her. Even though she has abandoned her identity as Prisca, she still calls him her brother and remembers him fondly in the present.
When she returned to Vollachia in Arc 7, despite her actions saving his life, he was extremely concerned about her presence there, since the fact that she was alive was supposed to be a secret. His worry extends further into Arc 8 after she was captured. In the same arc, he would confess to Subaru that her reckless use of the Yang Sword and her position as a Royal Candidate in Lugunica caused him extreme distress, believing that her actions could very well ruin everything he planned to keep her safe and alive.
Lamia Godwin
Lamia was Vincent's younger paternal half-sister. Among all of her sixty-six siblings, Vincent was her favorite. She felt genuine admiration for his finesse and enjoyed engaging in conversation with him. On his part, Vincent respected her skill too and seemed to, at least, tolerate her presence.
Lamia intended to inveigle Vincent into allying himself with her, but she forwent this idea when she witnessed Vincent's close relationship with Prisca, the sister whom Lamia disliked most, accepting that, as long as Prisca existed, he would not yield for his other sister. For this reason, Lamia considered Vincent and Prisca's relationship an obstacle.
During the Great Disaster, the two would encounter each other one last time, with Lamia being in an undead state. During their confrontation, Vincent claimed to not dislike his sister, something she had never heard from him when she was alive, and she pounced to attack him. Ultimately, this would be cut short thanks to the efforts of Berstetz, and after having her name devoured by Spica, Vincent would be the one to land the final blow on her, stabbing her with a broken sword. When she would go talk to Prisca later in the Imperial Capital, she would show off her final injury, displaying a form of pride that Vincent used his own hands to take her down, unlike with every other sibling.
Barthroy Fitts
Barthroy was Vincent's older paternal half-brother. He was a man who loathed the idea of his siblings killing one another and actively wished to avert as many deaths as possible. To that end, he decided to cooperate with Vincent, insuring the submission of several of their siblings during the Imperial Selection Ceremony so long as his younger brother guaranteed the safety of their domains and persons after winning the selection. Burying the truth and putting on a pretense of sweetness, Barthroy successfully had ten of his siblings cooperate with his younger brother and even factored his own death into his plans for the sake of his goal, impressing Vincent, who had misjudged his character.
Medium O'Connell
She has a surprisingly decent relationship with Vincent. Like her brother, she often talks to Abel in a friendly manner, and she has no issues being casual with him, even if she does recognize him as the emperor of the nation. Of course, she often finds herself frustrated with his demeanor, and she is commonly seen chastising him for being mean or uncaring. At present, she has decided to take it upon herself to correct his unattached view of the world, just like with Roswaal.
This said, Vincent does not seem to talk down to her as much as he does others. On the way from Guaral to Chaosflame, when he heard of her and Flop’s story of being in an abusive foster home, he told her to tell him where it is and who runs it, and he declared that he would take care of this issue as soon as the coup was taken care of. Similarly, in Arc 8, during talks with Flop and Medium, when Flop brings up taking Medium as one of his future brides, Vincent accepted as if it were natural, to her surprise and confusion. Even more so, when she would stomp her way into his temporary office, she would declare to go with the Lupugana reclamation team in order to face Balleroy, causing Vincent to warn her that this wasn’t the same as acting as a bodyguard. Ultimately, however, he would allow it when she showed her resolve.
In Lupugana, he would show great concern for her when she came to assist him during the climactic battle of the Great Disaster. However, when she resolved to help him with an emotional argument, that she was going to be his queen, he couldn’t bring himself to counter it. After the disaster, they officially married.
Flop O'Connell
Abel first met the merchant when Subaru brought him back to the Shudrakian Village. Though he respects Flop’s ability as a merchant, he finds his naïveté to be frustrating, as it interfered with his goal of taking over Guaral. The two would work together and ultimately complete the Bloodless Siege. On the other hand, Flop respects Abel, and he often calls him Village Chief in lieu of his proper title or the name he decided to go by. That said, because their views often don’t align, Flop often ends up pointing out his own views and getting on the nerves of the emperor.
Despite recognizing him as the emperor, if he feels that it is important enough, he will physically take him aside to talk to him, such as when he would pass on Chisha’s message to him and ask of the real reason of Balleroy’s demise. Ultimately, he would trust Vincent, even asking him to take on his sister as one of his brides, much to her surprise and confusion. Later, he became Vincent’s brother-in-law.
Eugard Vollachia
Vincent met his ancestor during the Great Disaster. Though he recognized the man as the Emperor of Thorns, Eugard displayed a friendly attitude, and the two introduced themselves with respect. Afterwards, the two proceeded to work back to back against the zombies.
Nine Divine Generals
Chisha Gold
Chisha was Vincent's military advisor and his most trusted ally.
Chesha was fourteen years old when he met Vincent, twelve years old at the time. Vincent's carriage had gotten stuck in a ditch. Impressed by Chesha's skill when he saw him get the wheel unstuck, Vincent decided to hire Chesha on the spot and take him to his residence. A few days later, when Chesha requested a new name, Vincent named him Chisha.
Since Chisha started working for Vincent, Vincent helped him further his studies and develop his skills intensively. Although Chisha found it overwhelming, this new routine proved more satisfactory and fulfilling than life at his hometown, from where he had been ousted.
Initially, Chisha felt afraid of Vincent due to his reputation as a brutal, merciless prince. However, the more time Chisha spent with him, the more he came to understand Vincent as a person and respect him. In public, Chisha appeared to assume a more obedient stance. However, when they were in private, Chisha could be quite impertinent. Nonetheless, Vincent barely reprimanded him over it; on the contrary, sometimes he seemed even amused by it.
After Vincent became the emperor, Chisha undertook the role of his body double, using the ability that he had earned after the injury sustained during the Imperial Selection. Chisha knew Vincent well and was able to do a perfect imitation of both his physique and psyche. Similarly, he was also granted the rank of Fourth among the revived Nine Divine Generals system for his intelligence and tactical prowess.
Vincent was shocked when Chisha sacrificed his own life to save him from the Great Disaster. Chisha's death drove Vincent to a rare display of vulnerability, as he was not prepared to lose him.
Cecilus Segmunt
During his early teenage years, Cecilus heard the rumors about Vincent and decided to become Vincent's subordinate, despite never having met the prince in person before. However, instead of directly asking Vincent, Cecilus chose to massacre rebels in Vincent's territory in an attempt to draw Vincent's attention. His plan succeeded, and thus, with Chisha's assistance, he joined Vincent's forces.
Though he would readily deny orders if they went against his goals or beliefs, Cecilus is extremely loyal to Vincent and will carry out any form of killing if he was tasked with it, such as his own father, Rowan Segmunt.
It was with Cecilus’s help, like Chisha, that Vincent would take the throne. During the scuffle with Lamia Godwin, he would slaughter her Pruning Corps down to the last man. Furthermore, he would also nearly kill Arakiya when Prisca ordered her to kill him. Even after Vincent became the emperor, when Chisha would try to convince him to help, Cecilus would readily state that he would always follow the emperor’s orders (though he ultimately allowed Chisha to go through with his plan).
Vincent, meanwhile, finds Cecilus to be one of the most difficult people to be around, having long since given up hope of trying to have the man make any sense. That said, he completely respects the Blue Lightning’s strength and intuition. Naturally, Vincent would rank the man First among the revived Nine Divine Generals system.
Arakiya
Vincent has known the Spirit Eater for as long as he’s known Prisca. As Prisca’s bodyguard, she was ready to protect her from anyone, including her incredibly intelligent older brother. Of course, he would respect her strength.
Arakiya holds a deep grudge against the emperor. Tricking her into thinking that he could have Prisca killed, he managed to attain her help in faking Prisca’s death, something that could be considered an act of betrayal. Afterward, Arakiya would be named as the Second among the Nine Divine Generals.
This grudge would simmer for a long time, and when she got the chance during Chisha’s plan in Arc 7, Arakiya would attempt to kill Vincent, wishing to put Prisca back on the throne, where Arakiya believes she rightfully belongs.
Olbart Dunkelkenn
Vincent would have the old shinobi scouted to become the Third among the Nine Divine Generals. However, even after taking him in, he would always remain vigilant when utilizing him, having trouble reading the Vicious Old Man and his intentions. Naturally, he would even fail to realize the old man’s hostility and wish for posthumous fame by killing the emperor. If not for Subaru, he may have continued to fail to recognize this.
Goz Ralfon
The Lion Knight is extremely loyal to Vincent, becoming incredibly enraged at Chisha and Berstetz for planning a coup, no matter of either of their reasons. Even the tiniest of slights against him would also garner his rage, such as Subaru speaking casually with him. While Vincent respects the strength, loyalty, and leadership of the Fifth, he would find his naturally loud voice to be irritating, and he would often have to stop him from speaking out of turn.
Groovy Gumlet
Of the Nine Divine Generals, Groovy would be the first to be scouted (not including the people he was already acquainted and familiar with). Wishing to utilize his strength and knowledge of curse tools, he would take the position of Sixth, and he would be left in charge of the proper handling, collection, and distribution of other cursed items remaining in the nation. As such, he considers Groovy to be among the most useful of the Nine Divine Generals.
Yorna Mishigure
Despite being known for often raising rebellions, Vincent would still offer her the position of Seventh, bringing about much controversy from those around him. Of course, he was forced to handle her rebellions even after appointing her in this position, sending out warriors like Cecilus and Arakiya to quell her threat, though this would fail.
During the events of Arc 7, Vincent would scout her for her assistance in taking back the Empire from Chisha’s hands, offering her something that she had wanted for a long time. While she would only accept to help him after the destruction of Chaosflame, she would find his demeanor frustrating.
Vincent would not realize her identity as the late Sandra Benedict until after the return from Guaral, leaving him shocked.
Moguro Hagane
Due to its overwhelming presence, strength, and defensive capabilities, among other reasons, Vincent entrusted the rank of Eighth of the Nine Divine Generals to the great meteor. He trusted it with the large scale defense of the Imperial Capital, as well as the defense of the Crystal Palace itself (albeit, that is its own body). As such, Vincent considered Moguro to be one of the most useful among the Nine Divine Generals. However, upon realizing that Moguro’s time was cut short by the Witch Sphinx to use as a bomb, Vincent was disheartened, and he promised to reward its services by maintaining the tranquility of the Empire.
Balleroy Temeglyph
The original Ninth among the Nine Divine Generals, Vincent trusted his skill and respected his talents as the most powerful Flying Dragon Rider in the nation. Likewise, Balleroy respected Vincent’s leadership. That said, Vincent would also trust Balleroy to carry out a mission that was certain to leave the Magic Bullet Sharpshooter dead and publicly known as a traitor, simply to form a temporary non-aggression pact with Lugunica.
As the start of the Great Disaster, Balleroy would kill Chisha, believing him to be Vincent, and the emperor would immediately recognize the attack and even be left utterly dumbfounded by the man’s revival. Throughout Arc 8, Balleroy would keep Vincent as his primary target, wishing to bring the whole incident to an end as quickly as possible, though he wouldn’t get a chance to try again. Instead, his final act was saving his, and everyone else’s, lives in his final moments as a zombie, trusting the man with taking care of his sister.
Imperial Army
Zikr Osman
Vincent puts great stock into Zikr and his tactical mind, even believing the demeaning epithet, the Coward, to be something worth praising. After the Imperial Coup, it was Zikr who Vincent wanted on his side, and after reconfirming his allegiance, Zikr fought alongside him in the following Imperial Civil War, being ready to throw his life away when necessary.
Jamal Aurélie
During the Great Disaster, Jamal was responsible for being both his and Medium’s bodyguard, and he even had him accompany him during the Conquest of the Undead Capital. Following the Great Disaster, Vincent officially promoted him as an Escort General.
Vollachians
Mizelda Shudrak
In the beginning, the two were at odds in part due to Vincent trespassing on their territory. However, after completing the Lifeblood Ritual, Mizelda treated him as both a warrior and one of their own, and she even began obeying him. Though she mostly says it’s because he has a good face and attitude, she stills shows immense loyalty, nearly giving her life to protect him from Arakiya in Guaral.
Taritta Shudrak
Her relationship with Vincent was difficult. Due to the death of her late friend, Mariuli, Taritta intended to shoot the man with black hair and black eyes who would appear in the Buddheim Jungle. Naturally, she would be shocked to see both Subaru and Vincent appear there, leaving her conflicted about what to do. After he completed the Lifeblood Ritual, like the rest of the Shudrakians, she would begin to obey him, assisting in both the Bloodless Siege of Guaral and in his journey to Chaosflame.
In Chaosflame, she became more and more conflicted about what to do as both the Shudrakians’ new chief and as the person meant to fulfill her friend’s late request. Though she would obey him when the time came for it, when the false Great Disaster appeared, Vincent made it known that he realized that either she or someone she knew was a Stargazer and was given a commandment in regards to him. During the chaos, Vincent would make Taritta make a decision, and she would choose not to shoot Vincent.
Emilia Camp
Natsuki Subaru
When the two first met, Vincent was suspicious of him and held him at the edge of a blade. After Subaru would give his name, Vincent would hand him a dagger, intending to use him to throw the imperial army off of his trail. When Subaru took his leave afterward, Vincent would remark on his name, having recognized it from his feats in Lugunica. However, he would disregard this shortly after.
When the two would meet again, Vincent would look down on him and actively insult him, whereas Subaru would find his demeanor irritating and similar to Priscilla. However, the two would put their differences aside and fight together against an Elgina, where they would make allies with the People of Shudrak.
However, due to his reappearing in the village, his impressive display and tactics during the fight, Subaru’s arm regenerating, and him keeping Rem, who can use Healing Magic, by his side, he would come to believe that Subaru was a Stargazer from Lugunica. Because of this and Subaru’s heroic points of view yet whimsical judgments, Vincent would come to despise him like other Stargazers, if not worse, yet trust in his judgment. A major example of this was displayed in Chaosflame, where Subaru would point out Olbart’s ambitions and the ambush waiting outside.
Regarding the events in Chaosflame, he would learn that Subaru was in the center of the shadow, and he would find it curious, just as he was with when he learned that Subaru was keeping a Sin Archbishop by his side, though he would quickly put it out of his mind. After the event subsided, Vincent believed that Subaru survived the ordeal, believing it too early for his role to end yet.
The two would reunite later on the coupled dragon carriage, where Vincent was still reeling from the loss of Chisha. Here, he would reveal his disgust for both Subaru’s nature and his own belief of him being a Stargazer, and he would question him about why he chose to save himself over Chisha. However, the two would end up in a scuffle, where Subaru would dispel Vincent’s misunderstanding and push him to fight against fate. Because of this, the two would come to understand each other better, albeit their outward interactions have remained mostly the same.
Presently, Vincent has regarded Subaru as one of his core strategists in the fight against the Great Disaster, and in fact, numerous times within the battle, he often thought that if Subaru were there, he might have been able to come up with ideas that he couldn’t to prevent such major calamities or save lives. Similarly, in the finale of the Great Disaster, though he didn’t see him during his and the generals’ fight against the Giant Magic Crystal Soldier, he trusted in Subaru, as he knew he was in his own big fight elsewhere.
After the Great Disaster, the two spoke with each other regarding his sister’s death, where each handled their grief in different ways. With his leave from Vollachia, he entrusted Spica’s care to him, albeit Vincent had been the one to persuade her to temporarily remain in Vollachia, leaving Subaru annoyed.
Witches
Sphinx
Vincent regards her as a dangerous enemy since she is the one leading the Great Disaster. Sphinx harbors a strange desire to keep Vincent alive, leading her to negotiating and taking hostages to make him listen. However, after being outsmarted by Vincent’s and Subaru’s plan, Vincent would manage to strike her with the Yang Sword, nearly leading to her demise. However, it was because of this strike and Sphinx’s decisiveness that she managed to cast off the shell of “Sphinx” and become the “Witch of Greed.” The two would meet again a short time later, much to his confusion. However, still recognizing her as an enemy, he was still prepared to fight against her.
