Family
Zoey
Zoey was Tanza’s older sister. After the two lost their family and village, Zoey acted like a mother figure to her as they traversed Vollachia. Zoey and Tanza remained close, even after they arrived in Chaosflame. Unfortunately, Zoey’s brutal death left a deep scar in Tanza’s heart, and it inspired her to take her sister’s place as their master’s attendant.
Imperial Family
Eugard Vollachia
Initially, Tanza thought of Eugard as an enemy when he appeared out of nowhere and attack their opponent. However, when it was revealed that Eugard was Yorna’s old love and not their enemy, Tanza’s hostility disappeared. Due to her actions of trying to defend Yorna even from him, Eugard gained respect for the young girl and entrusted his love’s care to her while he fought.
Vincent Vollachia
Though she shows respect for Vincent and his position, she did not care for his actions in trying to recruit Yorna into the Imperial Civil War. As such, she attempted to keep them from meeting Yorna, setting off the horned townsfolk and even the Vicious Old Man to do what they could to keep them occupied. However, this ultimately failed, and Tanza was even willing to offer her life for her transgressions, although Vincent did not take it and even respected her motivation.
Nine Divine Generals
Yorna Mishigure
Tanza holds a great amount of respect for Yorna after having met her and seen Chaosflame’s societal structure, not to mention the fact that she took her and her sister into the city with open arms. After her sister’s death, Yorna spoke to her with the same angered and saddened expressions as herself, and when Yorna began a rebellion for Zoey’s sake, Tanza’s respect for her grew, eventually causing her to take on the position of Yorna’s attendant, just like her sister.
Tanza made herself useful, neglecting her own wants for Yorna’s, causing her master to worry often. When Vincent tried to recruit her for the Imperial Civil War, Tanza even attempted to try and force him out of the city so that Yorna wouldn’t have to participate in the fight, although her scheme ultimately failed. Shortly after, when the false Great Disaster ran rampant throughout Chaosflame, Tanza sacrificed herself in order to keep it from causing further harm to the people, especially Yorna.
Thanks to this, she was teleported all the way to Ginunhive, where she was forced to become a gladiator. Still alive, Tanza made it her goal to return to Yorna’s side, even siding with Subaru after realizing he was her best chance of returning. By the time she returned to Lupugana, she was unable to meet with Yorna again, and she would be left worried after being forced to leave her behind in the zombie infested capital. That said, the two were able to reunite when it came time to reclaim the imperial capital, with Tanza protecting from an incoming blade. Though Yorna tried to push her away with false words, Tanza realized she was lying since the Soul Marriage Technique continued to reflect her love for her in Tanza’s body. With a newfound resolve, Tanza fought in Yorna’s place against the undead swordmaster.
Cecilus Segmunt
Due to Cecilus having once come for Yorna’s life, she does not think very fondly of the man. When she met the infantilized Blue Lightning in Ginunhive, she was naturally left bewildered by his attitude and his claims. That said, she could not deny his skill, nor could she outright call him a liar.
Olbart Dunkelkenn
In Chaosflame, Tanza came to Olbart for his assistance when attempting to banish Vincent’s party from the city. Since the man was curious about the party in question, he accepted her request, subsequently leading to the string of incidents that led the city to its downfall. The two have not talked since.
Emilia Camp
Natsuki Subaru
She initially met Subaru as he was posing as Natsumi Schwartz, and shortly after, she would see him in his infantilized form, one that caused him to refer to himself as Natsuki Schwartz, causing her to be momentarily surprised. However, two would not build a proper relationship until Ginunhive, where they were forced to rely on each other in order to leave the island and reach their goals: returning to the ones they cherished.
Tanza is often left frustrated with Subaru’s antics, such as talking with the gladiators when it seemed pointless or getting himself thrown into Sparka. However, she would come to respect his actions upon further explanation, even if things like Sparka left her concerned about his recklessness. Tanza has also been made aware that while the rumors of the “black-haired crown prince” were about him, he was not actually the crown prince, though he was willing to use it to his advantage. When the Pleiades Battalion formed, she ended up acting as an advisor of sorts to Subaru, and sometimes as a battering ram, much to her dismay, though she lets it slide since she was trusted with the duty.
At some point, she started to grow fond of Subaru, calling him Master Schwartz, and even though the two often had friendly banter, she did not like disrespect towards him, as seen when she tried to scold Ram for her words. Similarly, this fondness would show itself in her rivalry with Beatrice.
Even after she learned his true name and position, she still showed him respect. That said, as she was not comfortable calling him by it, she decided to continue referring to him as Master Schwartz. As Subaru was preparing to leave Vollachia, he said goodbye to Tanza, though she warned him not to treat it like the last time they would see each other, much to his confusion as she would not elaborate.
Beatrice
The two first met when the Pleiades Battalion first marched to Lupugana. After Beatrice reunited with Subaru, Tanza attempted to force Subaru’s focus forward, causing Beatrice to become annoyed with her and for their rivalry to start. The two can often be seen arguing about who is a better partner for Subaru, such as when they each tried to give him a towel to dry his face with. That said, they are capable of working side by side together, and they’ve even complimented each other on their respective skills.
