Ram/Relationships

Family

Rem

Ram had always greatly cared for and been protective for her twin sister. When both of them were just newborn infants, Ram had already developed an instinct to protect Rem when she sensed the latter was crying in fear from potential threats. Throughout their life, Ram always tried to encourage her whenever she felt inferior or depressed, and after the incident that resulted in the destruction of her village, she started to notice that Rem's feelings of ineptitude and inferiority had become even stronger. Ultimately, her attempts were ineffective, and Ram half gave up, leaving her to hope that someone would appear who could help her curb those feelings. Also, while normally calm, when it comes to Rem's safety, she can be very emotional. When Rem died in one of Subaru's loops, Ram fell into a fury, adamantly chasing Subaru down for suspecting him of being involved with Rem's death.

After Subaru's arrival at the Roswaal estate, once he helped Rem move forward, Ram was happy to see that her sister was smiling genuinely again and that her complexes had been reduced, if only a little annoyed that Subaru was the one responsible. For Ram, watching Rem be herself and gush over a boy she likes was something she wanted to see for a long time. Even though Ram loves Rem's progress, Ram often gets jealous of Rem talking to her about Subaru, as it hurts her to think that Rem is thinking of her less often.

After Rem's existence was temporarily erased by the Authority of Gluttony, Ram completely forgot about her sister and did not feel bothered by her falling into a coma. However, Ram does develop some of her previous care for Rem. When Rem wakes without her memories and yet to be remembered by the world, she eventually meets Ram again, and though not quite to the standard it was before Lye attacked Rem, the two ended up sharing a strong bond again, with Ram even claiming that she’d always take Rem’s side on the coupled dragon carriage. After returning to the manor, Ram gave Rem a tour of the grounds and in the process, both regained their memories due to Roy Alphard, with Ram devastated and ashamed at herself for having forgotten her sister for so long, while Rem apologized for having worried her in the first place, and the two held each other in their arms.

Emilia Camp

Roswaal L. Mathers

Though Roswaal was responsible for taking Ram and Rem from her burning village and giving them a job as maids within his manor, after discovering that he had prior knowledge of the attack and that he could have stopped it, her rage boiled within her, and she swore revenge against him. Likewise, due to the severance of her horn and the fact that Roswaal also held the life of her sister in his hands, she was forced to enter a contract with him, making the man responsible for taking on the role of her horn by supplying her mana. She also ultimately discovered that Roswaal only took them in to accomplish his goals and saw them as tools to reach that goal more than people.

For ten years, she and Rem would remain as Roswaal’s maids. Over that time, Ram started to bear complicated feelings toward. Though she respected his strength and was beginning to bear feelings of love for the man, as well as the fact that her feelings of getting revenge were beginning to wane, due to her sister being at his mercy, she still felt frustrated about her relationship with him. By the time of the first arc, her feelings on this were around their lowest, and she had become much more willing to listen to him, keeping an eye on things and people for him.

After Rem was devoured by Gluttony, however, her complicated feelings had finally taken root as something more. With her sister out of the picture, her feelings of vengeance had completely vanished, and all that remained of her feelings for Roswaal were respect, adoration, and love. As such, when it came time to stop Roswaal from going down his darkest path, Ram was fully willing to assist Subaru in his plan against him, in spite of her loyalty. This led to her confronting Roswaal before the giant magic stone containing the original Ryuzu Meyer alongside Puck. Though he attempted to taunt her into attacking him, as he had already been aware of her goal of vengeance, she responded against his wishes and decided to separate him from the path he was heading down, and she claimed to have fallen in love with him to his face, which left him baffled as to how her feelings could have changed. This resulted in a massive fight between Ram and Puck and Roswaal. Though neither of the former were at their fullest strengths, they were able to hold him off long enough for Ram to steal his Book of Wisdom and toss it into fire. In his rage, Roswaal attacked her, leaving her heavily injured. Despite this, he was lost and began trying to heal her as best he knew how. After this, when Roswaal lost, Ram forgave him and let him lay on her lap after suffering the beatings of the other camp members.

Even after this, Ram has become much more open about her feelings toward him, often making complimenting remarks of the man, and the two have become much closer, with Roswaal having complicated feelings toward her himself. During the events of Arc 7, when she met with Serena alongside Roswaal, she had no problems regaling stories of the man she admired with Serena, much to his dismay.

Natsuki Subaru

Though she was initially distrustful of Subaru, it took her no time to realize that Subaru was not a bad person, and she was willing to teach him the writing of the world. She has also shown to habitually call him Barusu rather than his name, usually to tease or make fun of him. Likewise, she trusted him when it came to fighting the Wolgarms and retrieving her sister, as well as respecting his decision to remain behind to help her escape.

After this incident, however, when Rem began showing love and respect to Subaru, Ram was often left baffled by both Subaru and Rem, leaving her somewhat annoyed, even though she supported her sister. She even became jealous of Subaru because he was taking most of her attention, which at one point led to her overworking herself in an attempt to outdo his serving work and collapsing. While annoyed that he was the one to help her, she still ended up falling asleep while holding Subaru's hand, which Rem claimed was rare and likely meant that she had accepted Subaru. Later, after losing her memory of Rem, she was forced to rely on Subaru for telling her about her sister, as he was the only one who had his memories of her, allowing him to call her Sis.

During the Sloth Hunt, when Subaru got her attention through her Clairvoyance, she trusted in his plan to evacuate the citizens of the village, even though she had no reason to trust him after what happened in the Royal Capital. During the incident in the Sanctuary, she was fully willing to assist Subaru, both in the failed loop against Garfiel to help him escape, and in the main timeline, where she intended to go against both Garfiel to knock some sense into him and Roswaal to set him on the proper path. That said, she did not want Subaru to find out, making sure Otto kept quiet. It was around this time that Ram started calling Subaru a man with good timing.

Because of those incidents, though she continued to speak to him the same, Ram did care for and trusted Subaru greatly. Regardless of how absurd his claims might be, she trusted those claims greatly and would go along with his judgment. She even helped him keep him from trapping himself in his head with doubt, flicking him and helping him throw up when he needed it, and she even tried to fight beside him when he was in danger. In Arc 6, when the two had passed out during the fight against the Hungry Horse King, Subaru kept his grip on Ram tight, which even Emilia couldn’t pry away, and when Ram awoke and learned of those, she comically threatened him out of embarrassment.

That said, when he lost his memories in Arc 6, though she didn’t show it on her face, she was disturbed and thought that he had some sort of strange plan in mind, leading her to confronting him alone and trying to get him to entrust whatever plan he had to her. When she realized that he wasn’t lying, she was angry and emotionally distraught, both for him and for Rem. In one failed loop, she even threatened him to bring out the real Subaru, and she violently attacked him in her fury when she didn’t believe his claims of amnesia. In the fights that followed, after he regained his memories, she was forced to rely upon Subaru’s Authority of Greed. When she figured out the mechanics of his Authority, she was careful not to go overboard, as she knew one misstep could kill him. She also expressed frustration that he would do such a thing and put himself at such an insane risk.

When Subaru was stranded in Vollachia with Rem and Rui, Ram had no problem with sneaking into Vollachia to retrieve them. In fact, even after they’d arrived and she’d befriended Serena Dracroy, immediately after hearing which side of the war that Subaru was on, she had no issue with pointing her wand at her new friend, deciding to take the same side as Subaru, not allowing Serena to potentially get in her way.

Later, she often used beating up Subaru as a way to cheer up her awakened sister, and likewise, she immediately noticed her feelings for him, leaving her somewhat annoyed with him again. Similarly, she even teased him about his nickname when witnessing Tanza’s protectiveness of him, leaving Subaru annoyed. That said, when Subaru attempted to defend Rui, Ram showed no reason to go against him, though she warned him that the world would not be so forgiving towards the girl.

Emilia

Although Ram did not socialize much with Emilia, the two had mutual respect toward each other. Despite this, she initially did not think of Emilia as reliable. Eventually, however, during Arc 4, when Emilia declared her resolve after taking her first trial, Ram gained absolute respect in Emilia, and she was willing to ask her for help by winning the Royal Selection, as she believed that she needed to find a way to save Roswaal from the path he was on. Because of this, the two got much closer.

Puck

Ram respects the Great Spirit, and though she did not speak often to him, she and Puck were willing to fight side by side, taking on Roswaal while protecting each others’ backs.

Frederica Baumann

Ram respects Frederica as a senior maid, and when she lost her memories of Rem, she requested for Frederica to return, as she could not handle to entire mansion by herself.

Garfiel Tinzel

Despite her cold and often hostile demeanor, Ram can be seen caring for Garfiel and his well-being, going as far as helping him to face his past and overcome his fear of the outside world. Garfiel holds strong feelings toward Ram, even expressing his love for her and often going out of his way to compliment her or say something good about her, despite always being turned down and often treated as nothing more than a distant acquaintance by her. In one of the failed Arc 4 loops, when Roswaal stabbed both Ram and Garfiel, he risked his life to prioritize saving Ram despite knowing that they would both die.

Otto Suwen

Ram respects Otto’s role as the camp’s advisor, though she tends to tease him in much the same way as other members of the camp. That said, she respects his intelligence and trusts him with the camp’s numerous managerial tasks and negotiations. Likewise, in Arc 4, she trusted Otto with her reasons for taking part in Subaru’s plan, and she had no qualms with fighting alongside him, having even done so in a different failed loop.

Ryuzu(s)

Ram gets along well with the Ryuzus. She is shown to share banter with the more self-aware ones, which has led to her slightly pouting.

Patrasche

Ram gets along well with Patrasche, and she regards the earth dragon as one of the smartest one in the camp, claiming that she is too good for Subaru. She felt gratitude towards Patrasche for protecting her sister from Batenkaitos, and she even apologized for having Patrasche bear the burden.

Priscilla Camp

Al

Ram has an unknown past with Al, as he immediately recognizes her when she is searching for Emilia during the events of Arc 1 and even attempts to assist her in locating the half-elf. His normally carefree attitude also changed when he learned that Rem, who he had mistook as Ram, was her sibling, prompting him to unconsciously release a wave of killing intent at this new information. After getting a grasp of the situation, he comments at how disgusted he feels.

Vollachians

Serena Dracroy

On the way to Vollachia to retrieve her sister and Subaru, she would meet Serena, whom she became fast friends with. The two would share drinks and stories together, several of which involving Roswaal. However, it should be noted that Ram would have no issue in ending Serena’s life if she stood in the way of reuniting with her sister, having pointed her wand at her with lethal intent upon receiving information that Subaru had sided with the rebels. Fortunately, things did not turn to blows as their goals aligned.

Tanza

Ram and Tanza have a rather neutral relationship, though when she saw the usual banter between Ram and Subaru, Tanza warned not to insult him. Realizing her emotions toward Subaru, Ram asked her age, which led to her teasing Subaru about his nickname again, much to Tanza's confusion.

Mizelda Shudrak

Ram and Mizelda managed to get along fairly quickly due to their pride as fighters and their similar roles as elder sisters. She also respected her for helping her sister when she was conflicted between choosing her love life and her duty, though she was left frustrated when Mizelda claimed that Ram would eventually do the same for her own sister.

Witch Cult

Lye Batenkaitos

Though she at first did not know him, thanks to Subaru informing her of what happened to Rem, who she had forgotten, she would come to want to end the Sin Archbishop with her own hands, like the other members of the camp. Eventually, she would meet her fated foe in the Pleiades Watchtower. Disgusted by the number of souls he had consumed and used for his own pleasure, she would ruthlessly beat up the Archbishop using power she hadn’t used in a decade in order to get him to cough up every name he had devoured. Her rage toward him would peak when his used his Solar Eclipse to take on Rem's appearance.

Eventually, having become fed up in her attempts to make him surrender the souls he stole, she would resolve to end him. Ironically, however, when he attempted to escape from her, he realized a twisted love for the young Oni and coughed up every name while out of her sight so that he could only savor hers. Ram would ultimately behead him as he tried to send his message of love for her.

Others

Spica

Although she had not met Rui Arneb personally, when she suddenly manifested before her eyes, she was wary of the girl, having learned her identity through Subaru. However, it wouldn’t be long before she was separated from the girl, as she was teleported alongside Subaru and Rem. When she would meet Rem and Subaru again, she was also wary of the girl, though didn’t make it obvious. Ultimately, when Subaru confronted her and offered her the name Spica to start her life anew, Ram would remind him, as well as Rem, that the world will not be so forgiving towards her.
