Medium O'Connell/Relationships

Family

Flop O'Connell

Medium is very close with her brother and always believes him to be right, no matter what he says or does. While he is protective of her, Medium was the one to act as his bodyguard when he became a merchant. Every time the two are seen together, Medium always helps her brother with whatever he has planned, whether it is helping a pair of strangers get in and out of a city or locking the emperor of the nation into one of the rooms of a coupled dragon carriage.

That said, there are some times where Medium doesn’t fully agree with his decisions. As of yet, the only example is when Flop arranged her marriage to the emperor, which she wasn’t prepared for.

Balleroy Temeglyph

The two grew up together, with Medium referring to him as Ballebro and Balleroy referring to her as Medi. The two were very close and protective of each other, and Medium even claimed to have wanted to be his bride when he was alive. When she heard of his death, she cried for days. Similarly, when he was revived as an undead in the Great Disaster, she was left in a similar state as when he died. However, she managed to overcome this and was even prepared to confront him during the upcoming conquest. With him defeated, Medium spoke to him on the ground, where he pointed out that she fell in love with someone. Deciding she would be okay, he entrusted the unconscious Madelyn Eschart to her, before deciding to use the remaining time he had left saving the empire.

Carillon

Medium helped raise Carillon alongside Balleroy and Flop, and sometimes, he would fly with her on his back. After he died with Balleroy, Medium was left crying for days. Like with Balleroy, she was also upset that he’d become a zombie. Like with Balleroy, she confronted the dragon and was sad to watch him die beside Balleroy.

Miles

Miles was responsible for saving her, Flop, and other children from the abusive orphanage in Averyk. Afterward, they were taken to the Dracroy territory by him, where they become close enough that Medium and Flop referred to him as Big Bro Miles. Upon hearing of his death in Lugunica, Medium was left crying for days.

Serena Dracroy

Having grown up in her territory, Medium was close with the Scorching Lady, referring to her as Sisrena. Likewise, Serena often enjoyed her company, even if she was left sometimes baffled by her demeanor. Upon meeting each other again during the Great Disaster, Serena smiled while teasing her about becoming so tall, and she wished her luck before she left to fight in the undead Lupugana.

Vincent Vollachia

The two first met after she and Flop helped Subaru and company escape from Guaral. Vincent was left annoyed by her demeanor, but he did not stop her. Later, the two would travel to Chaosflame together, with Medium acting as a bodyguard. When she told the group about her past in an orphanage, Vincent asked for the name of the town it was in and the name of the manager. After learning its name, Vincent stated that he would be sure to handle that problem once he returned to the throne, leaving Medium somewhat shocked. After she was infantilized by Olbart Dunkelkenn, he was left rather annoyed by this, though their interactions wouldn’t change. In fact, Medium often ended up correcting his attitude and demeanor several times, and she resolved to fix his nihilistic personality.

In the following arc, Flop and Medium ambushed him and locked him in a room together with them, where they discussed something important. During their conversation, he heard much more of her past, leaving him contemplative. Soon after, when Flop suggested taking Medium as one of his brides, Vincent accepted without any reservations, leaving Medium baffled and unable to accept it so easily. That said, she did love Vincent, as both Flop and Balleroy pointed out, and she ultimately decided to accept the decision, even using it to her advantage to make Vincent listen to her.

Nine Divine Generals

Yorna Mishigure

The two first met through an arranged meeting between the two sides of the Imperial Civil War. Though Yorna instigated a fight between them, she decided to allow Medium’s group to escape without them being interfered with. In fact, when she heard that Olbart still decided to mess with their group, she was enraged. After this, she and Medium seem to be on rather friendly terms.

Imperial Army

Jamal Aurélie

The two were initially at odds, as they fought against each other while escaping from Guaral. However, after she became the Empress Consort, he started treating her with respect and intended to protect her, though he was left somewhat baffled about what to do about her.

Emilia Camp

Natsuki Subaru

The two first met in Guaral, when she and her brother helped them get into the town, and they were instantly friendly with each other. She even trusted Subaru’s judgment went they were forced to retreat from the town, despite having no reason to. Later, the two traveled to Chaosflame together, where Medium revealed her past to the others there. Naturally, Subaru didn’t like what he heard and was left annoyed by the orphanage she spoke of. Later, the two went to confront Yorna together, where the two fought side by side with complete trust.

After they were infantilized by Olbart, when Subaru’s mind was muddled and terrified of the presence of Satella, who had squeezed his heart when he nearly slipped up, she held him in her arms to calm him down. Soon after, however, after Spica’s identity was revealed, Medium froze, a reaction that led to Subaru and Spica running away from them, leaving her feel heavily guilty. Soon after, when the giant shadow burst from Subaru’s body and threatened Chaosflame, Medium was shocked to hear that Subaru was at the center of it, and when they managed to quell it, she was worried for his safety, believing him to still be alive.

Medium was relieved to see him again on the coupled dragon carriage heading towards Garkla. Soon after, when they left to take on the Great Disaster in Lupugana, Medium thanked Subaru for meeting her, as everything that happened since never would have happened. Likewise, Subaru thanked her for the same thing, as she had been a great help and friend to him, despite having no reason to have helped him.

Roswaal L. Mathers

The two fought against the undead Balleroy together in Lupugana. Though they managed to work well together, Medium recognized that he was similar to Vincent, so she decided to act as a sort of role model for Roswaal as well when it comes to the prospect of handling emotions.

Priscilla Camp

Al

The two were on rather friendly terms throughout the events in Chaosflame, and Al had no problems with protecting her. Later, during the false Great Disaster, she listened to all of his orders precisely, despite having no reason to.

Others

Spica

Medium got along very well with Spica, acting like an older sister figure to her. She often braided the girl’s hair and kept up with her rambunctiousness. She was also amazed by her strength in Chaosflame. That said, when she learned of her identity as the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, she became afraid of her and froze, though it was only for a short time. After Spica ran away with Subaru after she was revealed, Medium felt incredibly guilty for her reaction. When the two returned to Guaral together after Subaru was sent away by the giant shadow, Medium was one of the people to defend Spica from the hostile Emilia Camp members.
