Iris

300 years ago, Eugard met Iris when he visited her village. She was the first to walk up to him and talk to him like a normal person in spite of his Curse of Thorns. After this, the two became much friendlier with each other until they eventually fell in love. Calling her “Mine Star,” their love is what drove Eugard to become the emperor, and Iris backed him up every step of the way. However, when the two were eventually betrayed by one of Eugard’s retainers, Iris lost her life, and Eugard descended into madness. His great grief led him to personally ending the Nine Divine Generals of the time for their betrayal, and soon after, he commenced the mass slaughter of the traitorous wolf people and mole people. At some point before he died, he cursed Iris’s soul so that it would not return to Od Lagna, and it would instead reincarnate into a new body every time she died, each time with her memories intact.

During the Great Disaster, Eugard was revived as a zombie, and the first thing he did was care for Iris, now Yorna, when she was captured. There, he restated his love for her, even despite his curse deeply affecting her. Throughout the fight that followed, he continuously made references to “Mine Star,” often making claims that only she was allowed certain privileges or stating his feelings regarding her. After Sphinx’s influence was removed, the first course of action he took was rescuing Yorna from the undead swordsman. Having been able to switch sides, he interacted with Yorna as usual, causing her to temporarily act as the girl she once was, and the two walked into battle together.

Vincent Vollachia

Eugard met his descendant during the Great Disaster a short time after Sphinx’s influence was removed. There, he greeted the current Emperor with his former title and name, and the two respected each other. Soon after, they fought side by side against the undead. After the fight, he requested for Vincent to remove the decree of the slaughter of the wolf and mole people, realizing that asking Vincent himself to do so would not harm his reputation.

Nine Divine Generals

Groovy Gumlet

The two first met when Groovy went to stop his Curse of Thorns. Upon arrival, he immediately recognized the King of Thorns, and the two entered combat. Throughout the fight, Eugard often threw praise at the Divine General, even claiming that he was stronger than any of the Divine Generals he knew. Though Eugard was on the verge of killing him, Groovy ultimately survived and played a key part in the former emperor’s defeat. Soon after, Groovy successfully managed to remove his curse from him, though the exact details of how and where it ended up are unknown. Eugard showed his gratitude and took on the role entrusted to him by the Sixth.

Tanza

Upon arriving to save Yorna, Tanza nearly attacked Eugard while believing her was an enemy, though this misconception was corrected by Yorna. Having been introduced to Yorna’s assistant, he stated his gratitude for Tanza’s act of defending Yorna, even if it was from himself, and he entrusted Yorna to Tanza’s care as he fought.

Kararagians

Halibel

Initially, Eugard did not think highly of Halibel, immediately recognizing him as one of the same race that killed his beloved. However, the two respected each other’s strength as they met in combat. Throughout the fight, Eugard began to learn of the thrill and exhilaration that came with combat, and he praised the wolf man for giving him the chance to learn it. Ultimately, Eugard was defeated by Halibel, and Sphinx’s influence on him was removed. At the end of the fight, the Curse of Thorns managed to finally curse Halibel, showing that Eugard showed great levels of respect and minimal hatred for the man.

Emilia Camp

Natsuki Subaru

Though the two only met briefly after the Great Disaster, Eugard showed respect to Subaru, though hearing about his cross-dressing in the past left him slightly confused. That said, when he turned to leave, he looked at Subaru and told him to spend his time with his loved ones, and to cherish his time with his star.
